⚠️ The Kansas City Metro has just been upgraded to a LEVEL 4 severe risk for Friday afternoon... this is a WIND DRIVEN upgrade from the Storm Prediction Center. A significant (CIG2) wind risk is in place with damaging 85+ MPH gusts possible. The line of severe storms is expected to move through the Kansas City Metro from 3 PM to 6 PM. Our coverage will be on FOX4 News Kansas City all afternoon long.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Tornado Watch for portions of
Far Eastern Kansas
Southwest Missouri

* Effective this Wednesday night and Thursday morning from 600 PM
until 100 AM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
A couple tornadoes possible
Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5
inches in diameter possible
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

A winter storm coupled with extremely cold temperatures is expected to impact St. Clair County this weekend. If possible, travel is not recommended and individuals are urged to stay indoors. Warming centers are available in St. Clair County for those who have need of them. Please see the list of warming centers and each site's operating hours below.

Elevated to Significant fire danger will be present Thursday afternoon across extreme southwest Missouri and southeast Kanas as breezy winds combine with a dry airmass moving into the region. Fire Safety with the kids was a success again this year. Every year the fire department take a day in October during fire safety week to talk to the kids about the importance of fire safety. This years topic from the National Fire Safety Counsel was lithium battery safety and hazards associated with them. Please take the time to talk to your kids about the things they learned from the firefighters today. Some of the things talked about were smoke detectors, Fire extinguishers, safe zones, and the importance of knowing there whole address.

* Until 815 AM CDT.

* At 739 AM CDT, a tornado producing storm was located over Nevada,
moving northeast at 70 mph.

HAZARD...Damaging tornado and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar confirmed tornado.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...
Schell City, Harwood, Horton, Johnson City, Appleton City,
Taberville, Walker, Metz, and Nevada.

A red flag warning is in effect today for the entire area from 10 am to 8 pm. Afternoon humidity levels will dip into the 19-25 percent range while winds will likely gust above 30 mph at times today. This will bring significant to pockets of extreme fire danger to the area today.
