Interested in researching the history of your home or another historic home in the City of Appleton? The Appleton Public Library is a wealth of knowledge to find out detailed information about your property regarding who lived there, when it was built (approximate) and what building(s) existed on the lot over time.

Go to the second floor of the library and check out the Wright's Directories from over the years. They go back to the late 1800s.

Also, in the map rack, there are original early 1900s and reprints of late 1800 Sanborn maps. Sanborn maps were generated to help insurance companies evaluate the fire risk of each structure. The maps were extremely detailed and show any outbuildings including garages, sheds and outhouses.

Additional information can be found about many homes if they exist in the 1989 and 1978 building inventory publication, available on line at:

414 N. Union Street is in the City Park Historic District and was built in circa 1860. The home is an example of a combination of Georgian and Victorian style architecture. The home was owned by the Saecker family from 1890 to 1980 and has ...an S in the beveled pocket door in the entry to the foyer. In 1907 the Saeker family did some major remodeling and added the third floor. The home is adorned with old age oak throughout the first floor with parquet maple floors. The City Park Historic District is truly a gem in the City of Appleton and City Park is the center piece of the neighborhood and Lawrence University.

Thanks also go out to The Wreath Factory in Menasha and Branching Out on Caseloma in Appleton for sponsoring our event. Their locations are an inspiration this Christmas season.

We also should thank Copper Rock for providing a location for ticket purchases. We are fortunate that we have them in our fine city.
