Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste

Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste Our Purpose is to enhance the quality of life for our 32 municipalities by providing world-class recycling, waste diversion, and landfill services.

In 1993, Outagamie County became the legally-established Responsible Unit (RU) for developing, implementing, and maintaining state-mandated recycling for the entire County. The County contracts with Orion Waste Solutions to collect curbside recyclables from the 68,000 households within the County, including all of Appleton and New London. The curbside recycling program is for all residents living

in a single family home, duplex, triplex or four-plex. By law, property owners or landlords of larger multi-family dwellings must provide recycling programs for their tenants. In 2001, Brown, Outagamie, and Winnebago Counties joined forces to form the Tri-County Regional Partnership. This cooperative agreement paved the way for development of a regional recycling system that would serve municipalities in all three counties. In 2008, the agreement was amended to include the planning, construction, and operation of a new single-stream recycling facility, located in Appleton and operated by Outagamie County. The operation of the Tri-County Recycling Facility began in July of 2009 and today continues to serve residents of Northeast Wisconsin, providing cost-efficient sorting and marketing of recyclable materials that are banned from landfill disposal.

🚧 NEW SPEED LIMIT 🚧

You may notice something a little different on your next visit… 👀

Our posted speed limit is now 17.3 mph.

Why 17.3? Because it makes you pause. It makes you look twice. And most importantly, it breaks that “autopilot” feeling we can all fall into when driving familiar routes.

At Outagamie County Recycling & Solid Waste, we have haulers, contractors, and residents moving through our site every day. With so much activity, staying alert is key to keeping everyone safe.

This small change is a big reminder:
👉 Slow down
👉 Stay aware
👉 Look out for one another

We want every single person to have a safe visit and make it home at the end of the day.

Thanks for doing your part to keep our site safe!

Happy Earth Day from Outagamie County Recycling & Solid Waste! 🌎

Every day, we work to make recycling easier for our community, because small actions make a big difference.

Something new is coming… 👀

We’re working on a trial collection at our drop-off site for a material many of you already save, but currently take somewhere else to recycle.

We’re not sharing all the details yet… but it’s lightweight, flexible, and likely in your home right now.

📢 Stay tuned to our page for the full announcement and how you can take part!

Even the best recyclers are still learning.

This video features one of our Recycle Right Master Class (401) volunteers sharing something she didn’t know before getting a behind the scenes look at our facility 👇

Plastic bags do NOT belong in your recycling bin.

They are actually the #1 problem inside our recycling facility. Bags wrap around equipment, cause shutdowns, and make sorting more difficult and dangerous for our team.

And here’s the important part, this isn’t uncommon.
Even people who care deeply about recycling are surprised when they see how the system really works.

That’s why we offer facility tours!

Seeing the process firsthand, from the people to the machinery, helps connect the dots and makes it much easier to recycle right with confidence.

👀 Want to see it for yourself?
We’d love to have you join us for a tour.
