In this episode of Appleton Engaged, we speak with Jessica Adams, Director of Partnerships for Northeast Wisconsin, and Miranda Dunlap, reporter for Wisconsin Watch. The conversation explores the important role local journalism plays in building informed, connected communities and how nonprofit investigative reporting helps bring deeper context, accountability, and transparency to issues impacting Wisconsin residents.

Jessica and Miranda share more about the mission of Wisconsin Watch and how the organization approaches long-form, fact-based journalism focused on public interest stories across the state. From workforce development and education to housing, homelessness, data centers, and local government transparency, the conversation highlights how investigative reporting can shine a light on complex community issues while also elevating solutions and lived experiences.

We also discuss the changing media landscape, the decline of local newsrooms, and why access to trustworthy, thoroughly fact-checked information matters now more than ever.
