Early this past Sunday morning, our Motor Deputies took it upon themselves to spend some extra time at our driving track, sharpening their skills and continuing their training.

We appreciate their dedication, initiative, and willingness to put in the extra time to be the very best they can be. Their commitment to continued training helps them safely enforce our traffic laws and keep the roadways of Columbia County safe for everyone.

Yesterday, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office opened a new "G-Pod" within our detention center. This project was funded by SPLOST. We invited members of our local media to attend so they could see first hand the advancements in technology and accommodations within our facility.

Our current overall jail population is 393. This is up from 168 inmates in 2020. This new pod has 92 beds which will help with our ever-increasing jail population and serve us WELL into the future.

Columbia County Deputies Kevin Faires and Danny Figueroa recently completed an Inland Boat Operator Training Program that was taught on Clarks Hill Lake by the Federal law Enforcement Training Center. The class included various topics: Boating Safety, Emergency Equipment, Navigation Rules, Vessel Handling, Preventative Maintenance, Inland Piloting and Electronic Navigation (to include nighttime operations). Other agencies that attended were South Carolina DNR, McCormick County (SC) Sheriff’s Office, Columbia County Fire/Rescue, McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (host agency). This was a great opportunity for our deputies to learn valuable skills and build relationships with surrounding agencies that share the lake with us.
