🚨 Smoke Advisory 🚨

You may notice smoky or hazy conditions across our area today. This smoke is drifting into Virginia from the ongoing wildfires in Canada.

While the smoke is not from a local fire, it can reduce air quality and may affect those with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.

We encourage everyone to:
• Limit prolonged outdoor activities if you notice difficulty breathing.
• Keep windows and doors closed when possible.
• Stay hydrated.
• Monitor children, older adults, and those with underlying health conditions.

Please stay informed and take the necessary precautions to protect your health.

🌡️ This past weekend brought extreme heat, but our members continued to answer the call without hesitation.

🚑 On behalf of the Appomattox County Volunteer Rescue Squad, we want to extend our sincere appreciation to every volunteer and career member who dedicated their time to serving our community. Despite the dangerous temperatures, our crews remained committed, responding to emergency calls with professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication.

🚑 Working in this kind of heat is physically demanding and carries additional risks, yet our members continued to put others first. We are incredibly grateful for your sacrifice, teamwork, and commitment to protecting the citizens and visitors of Appomattox County.

As the summer heat continues, our first responders are spending long hours serving the citizens of Appomattox County. Whether they're battling fires, responding to medical emergencies, working crash scenes, patrolling our roads, or answering 911 calls, staying properly hydrated is essential to keeping them healthy and ready to serve.

We're asking our community to help us stock hydration supplies that will be distributed to our local firefighters, EMS personnel, Sheriff's Office deputies, and Emergency Communications (911 Dispatchers) throughout the summer.

Last night AVFD along with Appomattox County Rescue Squad, Appomattox County Sheriff's Office, and the Virginia State Police responded to a difficult and deeply impactful scene for everyone involved.

Our members responded alongside our partner agencies and worked through a challenging situation that required professionalism, compassion, and coordination under extremely heavy circumstances. We recognize the seriousness of what occurred and the effect it has had on those involved, as well as the wider community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been impacted by last night’s tragedy as they begin the difficult process ahead.

We also extend our gratitude to all responders, dispatchers, and support personnel who worked tirelessly throughout the incident.
