Sheriff Richardson wants to express his thankfulness to Morning Star Baptist Church. It was an honor for him to celebrate their 156th Anniversary and to accept this award for the Sheriff's Office.

A horrible day in 2017 when the Church burned down, but it's amazing to see what God and Pastor Cousins have done to rebuild.

Good morning. PSA...if you happened to see a large group of deputies at the Appomattox County Schools this morning, some of our deputies escorted our fallen officer, Deputy Duvall's children to their schools. There is no need for concern or worry.

💙 Memorial Service Motorcade – Honoring Deputy Burlie W. Duvall, III 💙

Prior to the memorial service on Saturday, August 15, 2026, a law enforcement motorcade honoring Deputy Burlie W. Duvall, III will depart from Appomattox County High School at approximately 10:15 a.m. and travel through the Town of Appomattox on its way to the memorial service.

The motorcade will travel Evergreen Avenue, turn left onto Redfield's Road, then left onto Confederate Boulevard and continue through town.

Members of our community who wish to pay their respects and honor Deputy Duvall are invited to line the route as the motorcade passes.

We are deeply grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support shown to Deputy Duvall’s family and our Sheriff’s Office family. Your presence along the route is a meaningful way to honor his life, service, and sacrifice. 💙🖤

Burlie Winfoot Duvall III, 33 of Concord, VA, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026. He was the husband of Jennifer Duvall and loving father to BJ, Zane, and Adi.
Born in Washington, D.C., on December 17, 1992, he was the son of Burlie W. Duvall, Jr. and Tarnya S. Duvall. He was currently employed as a deputy with the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to his wife, parents, and three children he is survived by a loving family. The family consists of nine siblings, Laura Welk and Tim, Shyetia Duvall, Darion Duvall, Keyanna Duvall, Thomas Duvall, Dyllionn Clarke and Stephanie, Nicholas Frazier, Nathan Frazier, and Melanie Frazier; mother-in-law, Debra Butler; maternal grandmother, Shirlene Flowers and Manuel; maternal grandfather, Clinton Ceasar and Carolyn; nine nieces and nephews; a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a large community of friends made up of Appomattox Sheriff’s Department family including two Appomattox officers in training, Nathan Lass and Blake Cash, Sunset Ridge Neighborhood, and Centra Hospital staff and friends.
He was preceded in death by father-in-law, James V. Butler; and paternal grandparents, Burlie W. Duvall, Sr. and Gertrude B. Duvall.
A memorial service will be held 12pm, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Jonathan A. Watson officiating. A funeral service and burial will take place in Maryland.
