It's that time of year again where Menemsha Pond becomes a great nursery for Bay Scallops! With seed received from the Martha's Vineyard Shellfish Group, Inc., Marcella and interns Noah Manning and Andrew Karlinsky set the tiny scallops out in nursery bags suspended in the water (to avoid predators) so that they have time and a safe place to grow for the summer into the early autumn. Once they have reached about the size of a quarter or more, they will be broadcasted over eelgrass beds to continue to grow to help perpetuating the future generations of scallops in our pond.
