Day 2 wrapped up an amazing final day of Watts Up Camp!

Today, our campers had the opportunity to tour the Guntersville Dam and learn how hydroelectric generation produces power for our communities. We also stopped by one of our substations so the kids could see where the power to their homes is controlled and distributed.
Once we returned to AEC, campers put their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test during our hands-on power outage activity, where they worked together to safely restore power in our auditorium. To finish off the day, the kids competed in a relay race to experience just how heavy a lineman’s equipment can be before cooling off with a sweet treat from Jayden’s Ice Cream Truck!
Thank you to everyone who helped participate in and support Watts Up Camp this year. We love having the opportunity to invest in future generations while sharing our commitment to serving and powering our communities. We had a great group of campers this year, and we hope they had just as much fun as we did!

Day 1 of Watts Up Camp was a blast!

Today, our campers learned all about electricity and how we help power our communities. They also learned the importance of line safety, discovered how our ROW crews help keep power lines clear from vegetation, and learned how drones help identify issues in electric infrastructure.
The fun didn’t stop there, campers created their own Operation-style electrical game boards and even squeezed in a little basketball!
We have such a great group of kids joining us this year, and we can’t wait for Day 2!

A big thank you to John Jackson with TVA for teaching the kids about electricity, Jeff Whatley with AREA for teaching line safety, and Stacy Wilson and Chris Britnel with Joe Wheeler for teaching the kids about drones. We appreciate everyone helping make Watts Up Camp such a fun and educational experience!

We are aware of multiple outages across our service area due to severe weather. Our crews are currently responding to reports of numerous trees and power lines down and are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.

SAFETY REMINDER

If you encounter a downed power line:

• ALWAYS assume the line is energized (hot).
• Stay far away from the line and anything it may be touching, including trees, fences, vehicles, or standing water.
• Keep children and pets away from the area.
• Never attempt to move a downed line yourself.
• If a line falls across your vehicle, remain inside if it is safe to do so and call for help.

Please report downed power lines or outage-related emergencies to our office at 256-586-3196.

We appreciate your patience as our crews work to safely restore service.

To you, a power pole may look like a place to post a sign. To utility crews, it’s critical equipment. Nails, staples and tacks can create hazards for lineworkers. Please don’t post signs on utility poles.

We are aware of the outage affecting the Union Grove area. An animal came into contact with our equipment, causing the outage. While we work diligently to keep our system maintained and reliable, unfortunately situations involving nature can still occur from time to time.

Crews are currently working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, and we hope to have service restored momentarily. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
