Our Junior Fire Chief for the Day, Reid Luna, had a busy day serving alongside the members of SBFD!

Reid started his shift at Headquarters, where he helped kick off the day with a morning meeting and breakfast with the crew. From there, he joined firefighters at the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office during their Junior Deputy program, where our Smoke House was on display to help teach fire safety.

The day wrapped up at Central Fire Station, where Reid got an up-close look at station life, explored the fire apparatus, and learned what it takes to be a firefighter.

This special opportunity was made possible through an auction benefiting autism awareness, hosted by the St. Bernard Autism Awareness Krewe. We were honored to spend the day with Reid and show him what being part of the fire service is all about!

Thank you, Reid, for your hard work today. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

At approximately 11:30PM on May 28, 2026, St. Bernard Parish Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 700 block of Perrin Dr. in Arabi.

Initial units arrived on scene and reported smoke and flames visible coming from the residence. SBFD Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control and extinguish it. There were no occupants inside the home at the time of the fire. One firefighter sustained minor injuries during firefighting operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

ST. BERNARD PARISH FIRE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES GRADUATION OF RECRUIT CLASS 26-1. 👩‍🚒🚒🚨🔥

The St. Bernard Fire Department proudly celebrates the graduation of eight recruits from Recruit Class 26-1 on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

This graduating class marks the second fire academy ever hosted in-house by the department, continuing SBFD’s commitment to developing highly trained firefighters from within our own community. Over the course of the academy, recruits completed months of rigorous classroom instruction, physical training, live fire evolutions, emergency response scenarios, and hands-on skill development designed to prepare them for the demands of the fire service.

While today’s graduation is a major accomplishment, it is only the beginning of their careers.

These graduates will now continue their training as probationary firefighters, working alongside experienced personnel throughout the department as they gain real-world experience serving the citizens of St. Bernard Parish.

The St. Bernard Fire Department congratulates the following graduates of Recruit Class 26-1:
