TROOP 270 RECRUITS AT CRISP ACADEMY OPEN HOUSE

Crisp Academy held its annual open house event on Monday, August 10. It was the second time that Troop 270 has set up a recruiting table at the event.

Our Scouts and Scouters recruited for both the Troop and Pack 270.

Scouts who helped were Simon Baker, William Bridges, Mason Phillips, and Tristan Spillers. Adults who assisted were Gene Baker, Inga Bridges, Britt Brinson, Mary Phillips, and Melinda Spillers.

If you know of a boy or girl in kindergarten through 5th grade who likes doing fun things, Please bring them to Cordele First Church most any Thursday evening from 6:30-7:30. Cordele First Church is located at 302 East 12th Avenue.

Pack 270 is chartered by the Cordelia Masonic Lodge.

If you know of a boy, ages 11-17, who likes the outdoors and might benefit from the leadership and service opportunities offered by our program, please bring him to the Historic Cordele Boy Scout Hut most any Monday evening from 6:30-8:00. The Hut is located at 1101 South 3rd Street in Cordele.

Troop 270 is chartered by the Cordele Kiwanis Club.

Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Josh Gillis, age 36 of Tifton, GA, on July 24, 2026.

Derrick Lamar Britt Jr., age 33, of Tifton, GA, is still wanted for Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Second Degree Arson, and other charges.

Citations and Penalties: Under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 40-6-163), illegally passing a stopped school bus is classified as a high and aggravated misdemeanor.

Fines: A minimum fine of $1,000 for officer-issued citations.
Points: Up to 6 points added to your driving record.
Jail Time: Up to 12 months in jail or on probation, at a judge's discretion.
License Suspension: Automatic 6-month suspension for drivers under 21.
