Jan 8, 2025 - At 345AM this morning the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for Polk County. Polk County EMA will participate in videos calls with the National Weather Service today and tomorrow, but for now a mixture of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain is likely. Snow accumulations of two to four inches is possible with icing amounts around a tenth of an inch possible. This system is expected to begin early Friday morning and last through early Saturday. Plan on slippery road conditions, with travel likely becoming difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday commute and linger into Saturday morning. Bridges and overpasses could become icy even if temperatures remain slightly above freezing. These types of weather events can and will change rapidly. So monitor the National Weather Service and local Meteorologists for updates. We will also be posting updates here so be sure you are following us!

June 24, 2024 - The National Weather Service is predicting temps near 100 degrees this week, so please plan carefully if you are working or playing outdoors. Outdoor workers can be at a higher risk from the effects of excessive heat. When working under hot conditions, it is recommended to allow more frequent breaks and stay hydrated. Knowing symptoms, prevention, and emergency response methods can help prevent heat-related illnesses and death.
