Hope Respite is a FREE program that offers one-on-one social companionship, meaningful activities and active engagement for individuals living with dementia in the Arcade and surrounding areas while providing a 4 hour rest time for th
eir devoted caretakers. Starting in 2019, Hope has many trained volunteers that lead the 4-hour long program which includes, crafts, bingo, sing-a-longs, games, gentle exercise, pet therapy, lunch and more in an effort to give caregivers a chance to have 4 hours of rest- to run errands, get their hair done, take a nap or visit with a friend. The program takes pride in the fact that each participant will be paired with an adult for one-on-one care for the entire day. The program does REQUIRE registration and an evaluation to assure the program is a good fit for all involved. This program is for individuals who have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or a related memory disorder, including Mild Cognitive Impairment who are fairly independent. Guests must be able to use the bathroom independently without any physical assistance. Volunteers provide companion care only, and cannot provide any personal care, including issuing medication.
