*Hello Humboldt Bay Area* We'll be burning at the California Redwood Coast Airport (ACV) in McKinleyville on Monday, August 3rd!!

If weather agrees, we'll be assisting Arcata Fire District and Airport Staff in broadcast burning up to 40 acres of ACV's coastal prairies.

While this operation is NOT affiliated with the Rumble Over The Redwoods airshow, the goal of the burn is to ensure the safety and health of the surrounding communities and firefighters during the pyrotechnics displays associated with the event. Selecting a day with optimal smoke disperal not only maximizes safety and lessens negative impacts, but provides a great training opportunity for fire personnel before peak wildfire season.

Ignitions will likely begin around 1000 and conclude by 1200. Smoke management and community safety are the main considerations in every step of planning and operations. Weather conditions will be selected for the cleanest burn, firing techniques will be utilized to increase lift and smoke dispersal, and all smokes will be extinguished.

Smoke is expected to travel SE, away from the highway and communities.The burn will be visible from McKinleyville, Arcata, Trinidad, HWY 101, and surrounding areas. Observers may view the burn from outside the runway fence along Central Ave. Please do not report!

This burn is an incredible collaboration bewtween the Arcata Fire District, ACV Fire, the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association, and CALFIRE HUU. Thank you so much for supporting responsible fire management in our community!

Join the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services, CAL FIRE, the National Weather Service, and PG&E for a free community meeting to learn how to prepare for wildfires, understand evacuation zones through the Know Your Zone program, sign up for emergency alerts, and know what to expect if an evacuation becomes necessary.

🚒💧 Have you spotted our AVFA crew out around Manila lately?

AVFA members Willis and Nakamoto have been hard at work servicing fire hydrants throughout the community to help ensure they're ready when every second counts.

As part of this important maintenance, they're:
✅ Inspecting hydrants to verify they are operating properly.
✅ Clearing and maintaining the required 3-foot radius around each hydrant in accordance with the Fire Code.

Keeping hydrants accessible means firefighters can quickly connect to a reliable water supply during an emergency—helping us protect lives and property.

If you have a fire hydrant near your home or business, you can help too! Please keep the area around it free of landscaping, fences, parked vehicles, or other obstructions.

A big thank you to Willis and Nakamoto for helping keep our community safe, one hydrant at a time! 👏🚒💙

Update: Earlier this morning Humboldt County Sheriff's Office deployed Search and Rescue and he was located. He's now on his way to be reunited with family!

☀️ Weekend plans? Make wildfire safety part of them.

Don’t do the right thing the wrong way.

A mower blade hitting a rock, a tow chain dragging on pavement, or a hot vehicle parked in dry grass can all spark a wildfire. With summer heat drying out grass and other flashy fuels, one preventable accident is all it takes.

About 95% of wildfires in California are human caused. Help prevent the next one.

Multi agency mock Earthquake Drill.

Thank you to all our mutual aid agencies who participated and PG&E for doing an excellent job setting up the event. Many of them came from out of state to participate.
