Don’t sleep on a Stem Celebration!

Two days and two events!

Kick off the celebration with a free movie night showing the movie One Million Miles away on September 9, 2026 at 7 PM at the Minor theater!

but it doesn’t stop there there’s another event on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 11 AM to 2 PM in the Great Hall right here on campus.

11 am to 12pm you can hear from faculty, alumni, and local stem professionals
12 pm to 1 pm there’s a community lunch
1 pm to 2pm there’s interactive breakout sessions.

So find your people learn and connect at this event hosted by CNRS and ODEI. 🌲

🪨⚠️ New Earthquake Fault Discovered in Humboldt County

Researchers have confirmed a previously unknown active fault near Shively that could produce magnitude 7+ earthquakes, improving our understanding of earthquake hazards in Northern California.

🤝 Cal Poly Humboldt partners & experts featured:
• California Geological Survey
• U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
• National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (funding)

Cal Poly Humboldt geologist Mark Hemphill-Haley co-led the research, while Melanie Michalak, a Cal Poly Humboldt tectonic geologist, highlighted the importance of mapping hidden faults to improve earthquake preparedness across California.

🌎 The findings will help update California’s seismic hazard maps and strengthen future resilience.

Training provided but some restoration/ field experience is desirable.
