The 307-acre sanctuary includes freshwater marshes, brackish marshes, salt marshes, mudflats, tidal sloughs, grassy uplands, a boat ramp, an Interpretive Center, and over five miles of walking and biking paths. This innovative design has been an inspiration to other communities around the country. The 5 miles of trails are open to the public every day, sunrise to 1 hour after sunset, for walking,
jogging, biking, leashed dogs, and of course birding. The Interpretive Center is open Tuesday through Sunday 9am to 5pm and is closed on Mondays. Friends of the Arcata Marsh coordinates events & lectures at the Interpretive Center, and offers free tours every Saturday that meet at 2pm at the Interpretive Center, 569 South G Street, Arcata. Redwood Region Audubon Society leads free birding walks every Saturday at 8:30am that meet at the south end of I Street (Klopp Lake parking lot).
