Well everyone, winter has made it! This next week is going to get cold 🥶 just in time for the Christmas 🎄 weekend.

As a reminder, if snow ❄️ does accumulate and is over 3 inches there are parking restrictions for street parking to help with snow plow operations.

Try to have cold weather gear in your car in case you are stranded. Gloves 🧤, warm hats, phone chargers 🔌 , and a cell phone 📱 to call for help. Be safe, stay warm, and we are here if you need us!

Let’s talk about car seat safety for a moment.

It does not matter if you are driving down the street, across town, or out of state, children under 8 years of age MUST be in a child restraint system when in a vehicle. It is Illinois law under 625 ILCS 25/4. The height and weight of the child makes it dependent on what type of child restraint system the child must be in.

We have stopped several drivers who did not have children under 8 years of age restrained in a child restraint system or even a seat belt. This is dangerous no matter how far you are driving. If you are caught driving with a child under 8 not properly restrained, you will be cited.

Lastly, we know it is cold 🥶 and you want to keep the kids warm. Remember that big, puffy jackets can keep the seat belt on a car seat loose and not securing your child in properly. A light jacket and even a blanket will keep your child plenty warm.

Enjoy the first snow!

*Lost dog* *Dog has been turned over to the Douglas County Animal Control*

This dog turned itself in today at the city hall building. It’s a black lab with a red collar. If anyone knows who it belongs to, it is currently at the police department.
