This afternoon we were dispatched for a structure fire in the area of E 4th South Street. Caller reported a fire in a garage.

Upon arrival, the fire was found showing through the roof of the home, working its way through the attic. Entry was made through the front door to attack the fire, keeping it from spreading. A second crew cut the garage door for secondary attack. After initial fire was controlled and extinguished, crews started overhaul to eliminate any remaining hot spots.

An amazing neighbor was able to rescue a dog before crews arrived on scene. Fire crews were then able to rescue a cat that was inside the home. No injuries were reported.

NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Douglas county. Storm is expected to impact Arcola at 4pm. Take preventive action now.

A severe line of storms is rapidly headed our direction. These storm have prompted a Tornado watch for our area ahead of their arrival, and to the west are showing rotation. Stay weather aware for the next couple hours.

I57 south bound is being shut down and diverted into Arcola due to semi jack knife. Use extra caution with the additional traffic moving through town.
