🎖️ Soldier of the Day: PFC Samuel Tamang 🎖️
Meet PFC Samuel Tamang, a motivated and purpose-driven Soldier from Oakdale, Minnesota, proudly serving with the 147th Human Resources Company. With just 1 year in service, Tamang is already showing immense growth and determination to improve himself and support those around him.

Born in Nepal, PFC Tamang joined the Minnesota Army National Guard to pursue education benefits and to build mental and physical resilience. He has embraced every challenge the military has presented, demonstrating focus, adaptability, and a team-first mindset.

Military accomplishments include:
✅ Significantly improved his PT test score through dedication to fitness
✅ Gained valuable exposure to diverse cultures and backgrounds
✅ Grew in awareness of Guard opportunities and shared them with others

Outside of uniform, Tamang works at Wells Fargo and enjoys soccer, pickleball, hiking, and playing the guitar and keyboard—skills he developed with help from his brother during the COVID lockdowns. He finds inspiration in his immigrant parents, who worked tirelessly to build a life in the U.S. and continue to motivate him to give back and strive for more.

🎖️ Soldier of the Day: SGT Melissa Espinoza 🎖️
Meet SGT Melissa Espinoza, a resilient and motivated Soldier from Excelsior, Minnesota, serving with the 147th Human Resources Company. With 6 years of service, Espinoza is known for her professionalism, compassion, and a deep-rooted sense of purpose inspired by her family’s history.

SGT Espinoza’s father, a former child Soldier from Ecuador, found strength and courage in service—and passed that legacy on to her. In 2023, she mobilized to Kuwait as part of the Theater Gateway Accountability Team Platoon, contributing directly to operations in a high-tempo environment. She also prioritizes self-development and service, finding strength in education, fitness, and moral growth.

Military accomplishments include:
✅ Mobilized to Kuwait in 2023 as part of the Theater Gateway Accountability Team
✅ Embraces a holistic approach to leadership through self-care and personal development
✅ Demonstrates pride and dedication to helping others through selfless service

Off duty, Espinoza works for DFW Security Protection Force and enjoys reading, playing guitar, riding her motorcycle, and learning new languages. Inspired by her father’s example of valor, she continues to serve with courage and integrity.

🎖️ Soldier of the Day: SPC Jordyn Munkholm 🎖️
Meet SPC Jordyn Munkholm, a motivated Soldier from Forest Lake, Minnesota, serving with the 147th Human Resources Company. With 3 years of dedicated service, Munkholm exemplifies what it means to lead with heart, service, and authenticity.

She originally joined the military in search of a new experience—and has found so much more along the way. Inspired by her father’s support, she has grown into a confident leader committed to uplifting those around her.

Military accomplishments include:
✅ Deployed to Kuwait and Jordan, visited Petra, and built life-long friendships
✅ Found and developed her confidence as a leader
✅ Embodies selfless service by helping others succeed

Outside the uniform, Munkholm works as a caregiver with Cornerstone Caregiver. She enjoys golfing, snowboarding, playing pickleball, spending time with friends, and training her dog, Douglas. She's also learning the ukulele and finds purpose in donating plasma to help others in need.

🎖️ Soldier of the Day: 1st Lt. Kelsey Forbes 🎖️

Meet 1st Lt. Kelsey Forbes, a dynamic leader from Madelia, Minnesota, serving with the 147th Human Resources Company. With 6 years of dedicated service, Forbes embodies what it means to balance service, leadership, and community.

A proud wife, mom, and real estate agent with True Real Estate, she also plays a vital role in her hometown as the Madelia Chamber President and a member of the local hospital board. Outside of uniform, she and her family run a cocktail lounge and two Airbnbs, all while still finding time to enjoy cooking, traveling, and train rides!

Her military accomplishments include:
✅ Top squad at OCS
✅ Serving as the S1 OIC for 1-194 AR
✅ Planning and executing the Bataan Memorial March from 2022 to 2024

Forbes shares, “The military community is one that cannot be duplicated, and I am proud to be a part of it.”

At October drill the Commander handed out coins to three well deserving Soldiers up at Camp Ripley:

SPC Wang- for an incredibly positive attitude and refusing to give up on the ACFT. Thank you for setting the standard!

SSG Croucher- she’s been with the unit for less than a year but has already made such an impact on our team! Thank you for all your hard work as the Admim/Training NCO.

SGT Sell- as the units Master Driver he single handeley licensed over 10 new drivers licenses for the brigade for the unit to better complete future missions. Thank you for your hard work!

After almost 7 years with the 147 HRC, we say goodbye and good luck to SPC Vang, Wenny!

SPC Vang, Wenny has been a tremendous asset to us. He spent drill weekends sharing his knowledge and expertise across the unit and we will forever be grateful to him!

Good luck on your next adventure SPC Vang! We know you will do great things!
