✝️ What Would a Christian View of a Just Wage Say About the Johnson Family?

David and Sarah Johnson live in a small Oklahoma town and work hard to provide for their three children.

A local business wants to hire more workers. But when labor costs rise, the owner can only afford to hire two people instead of five.

Some workers earn higher wages. Others never get the opportunity to start.

Christian teaching has long taught that workers deserve fair pay. It also teaches that businesses must remain healthy enough to create jobs and serve their communities.

A just wage is important. So is the opportunity to work.

Christian teaching also recognizes that small towns are different from big cities, and family-owned businesses are different from national chains. One-size-fits-all solutions do not always reflect local realities.

That is why Christian teaching emphasizes subsidiarity—the idea that decisions should be made as close as possible to the people affected by them.

Many Christians see value in free markets because they allow wages and opportunities to reflect local conditions while respecting human dignity, personal responsibility, and voluntary cooperation.

A strong community needs:

• Fair wages
• Strong families
• Healthy local businesses
• Opportunities for those seeking work

🇺🇸 In small-town Oklahoma, meaningful work is more than a paycheck. It is often the first step toward a stronger family, a stronger business, and a stronger community.

❌ Vote NO on SQ832 and protect the dignity of small businesses and small town families to thrive!

💰 How do year-after-year minimum wage increases hurt second chance employees?

Second chance employees are people with past felony or misdemeanor convictions, or those finishing court-ordered rehab programs. They often struggle to find jobs because employers worry about risks and extra training.

When the SQ832 forces businesses to pay much higher wages (especially tied to big-city costs), it gets even harder.

Employers become pickier and hire fewer people who need that second chance. They choose workers with cleaner records who need less training.

This means:
• Fewer entry jobs for people trying to rebuild their lives
• More unemployment or part-time hours
• Slower return to normal life, families, and communities

Meet Mike:
Mike, 32, finished a rehab program in a small Oklahoma town. He’s motivated and ready to work at the local warehouse, restaurant, or store. But after several minimum wage hikes, businesses say the high wages are too risky for someone still building experience. Mike applies everywhere but keeps getting turned down. He feels stuck, even though he wants to contribute and stay clean. 😔

In small Oklahoma towns, options are already limited. Higher forced wages lock out people who need work the most.

Free markets would let businesses hire and train second-chance workers at wages that make sense for both sides. This helps more people get back on their feet and strengthens communities. Forced high wages create extra barriers instead.

🇺🇸 America is the land of opportunity—including second opportunities. ❌ Vote NO on SQ832 and help at-risk Oklahomans stay on track! 🚂
