It has been a bit, but we have done two calf recoveries this spring and have found them both - with the leaves on the tree, the one last took longer than expected, but we got it done. Once I get a break from work, building our new garage, and taking classes to get prepped for a home birth at the end of August, I will get some clips uploaded.

We are excited to announce that we will have a new co-pilot with us this fall on our deer recoveries.

P.S I have something cooking that I think all of our clients for the 26'-27' season will enjoy.

To our loyal supporters,

We will NOT be at Open Season this year as we prepare for something special in late summer.

We hope you all have a great time and we hope to catch up with a lot of you again in the 26'-27' hunting season.

Looks like you all are stuck with us for another 2 years 😉

THE WINNERS ARE....

I apologize for being quiet the past month, but we will have some additional news to share at some point in April.

As promised, here are the two winners of the $750 gift cards.

Again, we cannot thank you all enough for your outstanding support of our business.

Would you like us to do something like this again next year, or would you rather us try to do a drone giveaway instead? both would require us to ### amount of recoveries, but the drone would require us to hit a higher number for obvious reason.

We went back and looked at the data from every deer recovery we’ve done.

Out of 263 total recoveries, 186 of them (71%) happened when barometric pressure was between 29.9 and 30.3.

That’s a tight window. And it shows up over and over again.

This isn’t a theory and it isn’t something we “feel.”
It’s just what the numbers say after logging every recovery.

If you’re wondering when your odds are best, start paying attention to pressure. It matters more than most people think.

You will notice that we had 19 recoveries when the cloud percentage was between 90-100% and the pressure was at 29.9in

The biggest number was 21 recoveries completed when the pressure was at 30.2in and the cloud cover was between 0-9%

We analyzed 263 real deer recoveries and grouped the data instead of cherry-picking days.

Here’s what stood out:

• About 82% of recoveries happened between 30–59°F
• 40–49°F produced the most recoveries
• Deer were recovered under every moon phase
• Higher moon illumination lined up with more recoveries when temps were right
• Peak rut days showed mixed moon conditions — rut pressure mattered more than charts

This reflects recovery frequency, not total movement — but the patterns are clear.

How does this align with your observations?
What other data points would you like to see? Wind direction? Wind speed? Etc?

The top chart shows moon illumination (colored bars) stacked into the different temperature ranges.

The bottom left chart shows recoveries completed during different moon illumination.

The bottom right chart shows recoveries completed during different temperature ranges.

This quick chart shows that recoveries tick up during a New or Full moon.

We wanted to take the time to share some stats with everyone as I am sure there might be some things on here that you find interesting. We will be working to overlay our 2025 data with our 2024 data and see how everything looks with them combined.
