Can you help your neighbors?
In a world that feels rushed, divided and disconnected, there’s something wonderful about pausing to help someone in need. We could all stand to be more of a help to our neighbors.
That’s why we’re pulling together a group. A simple mission of joyful and practical help for anyone who needs it in our community. ………a group that has no name just yet……
What might we find ourselves doing?
Mow lawns, pull weeds, rake leaves, clean gutters, haul brush, trim bushes, plant flowers, minor repairs and small projects, move furniture, assemble a swing set. If you are not able to dig into the hands on work, you could always help with some light refreshments, or just an encouraging word for those who do. Or maybe just sit on a porch and listen when company is the best help of all. Who knows where this may lead us?
Here's how we see this working:
We will compile a list of volunteers who are willing to help. You don't have to be good at anything in particular, if you want to be involved then we want you involved.
We will also open a path (or paths) of communication with the community so we can find out where the needs are.
We will then connect the workers to the work. We’ll try to pair experienced folks with newcomers, strong backs with gentle encouragers, teenagers with seniors—because this is about building community within ourselves as much as it is about helping make our community healthier, stronger, happier and maybe a little more beautiful.
It seems simple, but there will be some serious organization and administration help needed along with the boots on the ground. We will have a kickoff meeting at the Presbyterian Church at 6:00pm on January 7th. If you would like to help us iron out how to make this thing work…….. and maybe come up with the perfect name. We would love to have you. We would love to see representation from all community organizations so we can talk about how we might work together on this.
If you can help us get organized and kick this thing off, please come to the meeting.
If you are more of a hands on person then just you wait- we will be taking signups and contact information from you soon.
Because someone needs our help today…and because we need hands and feet that are willing to move the Argyle Community experience forward:
See you on Wednesday the 7th at 6:00PM.
Back entrance of the Argyle Presbyterian Church.
