We have been spoiled by this community during National Police Week and want to offer our sincere thanks.

Yesterday a group of Liberty Christian School students stopped by with cookies and the folks from B&O Towing dropped off a massive amount of bottled water to keep our officers hydrated.

Then, today, the lifestyle manager from Harvest by Hillwood came by with some delicious snacks and a Thank you Police Officer sign that had handwritten messages on it.

We love protecting this community and always appreciate when those we serve come by to show some love.

This week, from May 10 through May 16, is National Police Week.

National Police Week was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedey to commemorate Police Officers Memorial Day on May 15 and the week surrounding it. It is a time to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice made by police officers who died in the line of duty and to recognize the service of officers in our communities every day.

We salute our fellow law enforcement members and thank them for their support in our mission of public safety.

Somewhere in a dark room, a nefarious individual sits in front of a phone randomly dialing the phone numbers of unsuspecting people. He or she will tell the person on the other end of the line that they have an unpaid traffic ticket, missed court appearance, or a bench warrant...and if they don't pay RIGHT NOW (often by untraceable means like bitcoin or gift card) they will be arrested!

If this sounds like an unbelievable plot to a story, just know that it unfortunately isn't. This exact scenario is occurring far too often and affects people in our Town and surrounding communities. We have covered this before, but we wanted to issue a reminder of how you can avoid falling victim to this scam.

- Know that the Argyle Police Department (along with every law enforcement agency anywhere) will NEVER call you to demand money over the phone
- Know that no credible court or law enforcement agency will accept payment in the form of bitcoin, Amazon gift cards, Apple gift cards, or other abnormal payment type
- If someone calls you claiming to be from a court or law enforcement agency, politely tell them that you are going to hang up and call the publicly available phone number for that entity
- If a person tells you that you have to make a payment NOW, this is a clue that something may be wrong with the situation.

We want all of you to stay safe from the villainous phone scammers and we're here to help if you need us. You can find additional resources related to fraud and scams in our lobby or by visiting ftc.gov/passiton

Have you been on the fence about participating in the Chili Cookoff at the 6th Annual Child Safety Fair and Chili Cookoff event on June 6th?

The chance to play with the “big boys” is there for the taking because it is now confirmed that 407BBQ is in the field and we expect to officially announce some other big names very soon.

If you’re ready to step up to the plate (see what we did there; a competition AND food turn of phrase) contact Lourdes Diaz ar [email protected] for more details.
