We had a wonderful time hosting Veda Rogers yesterday, as she shared about "A Grand Day," a book that presents the diaries of a real-life western Kansas farm woman during the Dust Bowl, Great Depression, and World War II! Thank you to all who came.

You are invited to a special author event celebrating A Grand Day: The Forgotten Voice of a Farm Woman through Dust, Depression, and War.

What does it take to survive the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and WWII on your own terms? Join us as we explore the published diaries of Louisa “Lulu” Schwanbeck, a Kansas farm woman whose strength and determination defined an era. Through debt, disaster, and loss, Lulu’s voice remains a powerful testament to the human spirit. Experience the story of a woman who faced every challenge with grit and ended her nights with a simple, defiant hope.

Copies of the book will be available for sale.

We’d like to take a moment to thank Breanna for the incredible impact she’s made during her time with the Arkansas City and Winfield Public Library • Winfield, KS as our AmeriCorps member.

She’s been instrumental in developing our digital literacy efforts for the community and has also played an important role in strengthening the RISE Cowley Directory, ensuring local resources are more accessible for those who need them. She is so kind and patient and truly cares about people.

Breanna’s last day at the Arkansas City Public Library will be this Thursday. We’d love for anyone who has worked with her or gotten to know her to stop by throughout the day to wish her well in her next chapter! And if you can’t make it on Thursday, be sure to drop by Friday morning at WPL!

Thank you, Breanna. We’re so grateful for everything you’ve brought to this work, and we’re excited to see what’s ahead for you. ❤️

After almost two full terms here at the Winfield and Arkansas City Public Libraries, Breanna, our ACC AmeriCorps Member, is heading off to an exciting new role as a university librarian!

During her time here, she’s helped so many in our community get comfortable with new technology, from devices and apps to classes and everyday digital questions. She also has been instrumental in maintaining and improving the Rise Directory: https://risecowley.org/rise-resource-directory/.

We’d love for you to stop by for a come and go coffee & donuts THIS FRIDAY morning from 9:00 am - 11:00 am as we thank her and wish her the best in her next chapter.

And don’t worry - technology help and digital skills classes will continue at WPL, so we’ll still be here to support your tech needs.
