The Arkoma Police Department would like to thank the Pocola Police Department and LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office for helping cover calls this week in our time of grief.

The department lost our biggest supporter and volunteer. As well as a mother figure to many officers. Assistant Chief Speaks’ mother, Rhonda Speaks went to be with the Lord on Tuesday and will be laid to rest today.

Please keep Assistant Chief Speaks and her younger sister in your prayers, along with our department as we all grieve and stand with our sister.

Chief Ivy and the entire Arkoma Police Department would like to extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office and the Wister Police Department.

Today’s tragedy is a gut wrenching reminder of what can happen in this career. It’s never easy, but we are always here to stand the line between good and evil.

Pray for the 1st Responders in LeFlore County tonight especially, but also everyday.

Thank you Channel 5News for coming out and supporting this event.

Arkoma Police Department would like to thank the following agencies for helping with the DUI reenactment today. We couldn’t have done it without you. It took each and every agency doing their job and working as one big team, just like we do everyday on the job.

Air Evac (Fort Smith base)
LeFlore County EMS Medic 5
Mallory-Martin Funeral Home (Spiro)
Pocola Fire Department
Pocola Police Department
Wilson’s Wrecker

We would like to give an even bigger thank you to Arkoma Public Schools for allowing us to do this and bringing the high school students to watch.

This event was put on to help bring awareness to drinking and driving, being high and driving, and the importance of wearing your seatbelt. And what the consequences are if you chose to get intoxicated and drive or not wear your seatbelt.

We wish all of Arkoma High School students a safe and fun prom! Have fun kids and make smart choices!

At 1 PM today there will be a DUI reenactment on the football field on the elementary campus. There will be numerous first responder vehicles and a medical helicopter on the football field. This is a reenactment, NOT a real emergency. With prom season approaching we’re putting the word out against drinking and driving.
