This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the fallen. The men and women who gave everything in service to this nation, both in war and in peace.

Their sacrifice is not forgotten. Their legacy lives in every uniform worn, every mission answered, and every freedom defended.

"This We'll Defend."

Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 383rd Training Support Battalion joined the Fort Des Moines Museum to celebrate Armed Forces Day alongside community members and fellow service representatives, in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 16.

Hosted by Museum Foundation Director Matthew Harvey and museum staff, the event featured branch-themed cakes honoring each military service. The battalion’s youngest Soldier, 1st Lt. Morgan Wilklow, and oldest Soldier, Sgt. 1st Class Cody Richards, were recognized with the honor of cutting the U.S. Army Reserve cake and serving the first pieces.

Earlier in the day, Soldiers toured the museum and learned about the nearly 200-year history of Fort Des Moines, from its origins in the late 1800s through World Wars I and II. Exhibits highlighted the contributions of African American officers, the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, and the Des Moines community to the Army’s legacy.

🇺🇸 Armed Forces Day is observed today, honoring the men and women currently serving in the U.S. military across all branches: the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard.

Established in 1950, the observance was created to recognize those actively wearing the uniform, distinct from Veterans Day, which honors all who have served.

Thank you to every service member for your dedication and commitment to defending the nation.
