It's ! Members of the Arlington Heights Fire Department have been conducting our spring live fire training at the AHFD Training Academy.

Twice each year, all AHFD companies rotate through live fire scenarios designed to provide realistic, hands-on training in fire suppression and rescue operations. The AHFD training tower is rated for burning Class A materials, allowing our crews to train in real smoke and heat conditions while practicing critical firefighting skills in a controlled environment.

During these evolutions, firefighters trained on searching for and removing victims in zero visibility conditions, rescuing victims via ground ladders, advancing and flowing hose lines, and performing vertical ventilation, the process of removing heat and smoke from a structure by cutting ventilation openings in the roof to improve conditions for trapped occupants and interior crews.

Training in realistic conditions is essential to maintaining the skills, coordination, and readiness needed to respond safely and effectively when emergencies occur in our community.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for our area, with the potential of severe weather that could take place over the next few days. The Village's Public Works & Engineering Department is sharing the below reminders about how to prepare for extreme weather, and how to report damage.

Please note that if you experience, witness, or suspect an unsafe situation, do not hesitate to dial 9-1-1.

You can Report a Concern through the Arlington Heights My Civic App (available for download on your smartphone) to report storm-related issues and include photos when possible—it helps us respond more efficiently. You can also use the online portal at www.vah.com/ReportAConcern. You can also call:
- Public Works on Weekdays (7 AM – 4 PM): 847-368-5800
- Non-Emergency Police after hours: 847-368-5300

Tree & Yard Waste:
- The Village maintains parkway trees. Private tree issues should be handled through Groot, the Village’s refuse provider.

Flooding Information & Reports:
- Street flooding: Help prevent it—clear debris from storm drains near your home.
- Sidewalk flooding: Staff will investigate after the storm ends, pending severity of damage in town.
- Backyard flooding: Reviewed after the storm, unless it poses an immediate risk to structures.

Protect Your Property - Take Steps to Prepare:
- Check sump pumps and ensure they’re working properly.
- Make sure downspouts are not discharging onto sidewalks or streets.
- Clear debris from window wells and backyard drainage paths.
