Transition Assistance Advisors - VA, DoD entitlements and State Benefits A Transition Assistance Advisor (TAA) serves as the statewide point of contact to assist Servicemembers in accessing Veterans Affairs’ health care services

The purpose of the Transition Assistance Advisor (TAA) program is to provide a professional in each state/territory (some states have two TAAs) to serve as the statewide point of contact to assist Servicemembers in accessing Veterans Affairs’ health care services and benefits. Each TAA also provides assistance in obtaining entitlements through the Military Health System and access to community resources. The TAA initiative started in May 2005 when the National Guard Bureau (NGB) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The TAA program is staffed by 60 contract positions and four federal technicians.

#Veterans, today is National Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day, honoring the courageous men and women who endured brutal treatment at the hands of their captors during their captivity. April 9th was chosen because #OnThisDay in 1942, the largest number of U.S. Forces were captured by Japanese troops in the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines and forced to march 65 miles to a prison camp without food or water. President Ronald Reagan first proclaimed National Prisoner of War Recognition Day in 1987 on this day to coincide with the anniversary of this Bataan Death March. Today we remember and honor our nation's Former #POW's.

Veterans Care Legislation: The House is set to consider a burn pits registry bill — one of three veterans affairs measures up for a vote today — in a step forward for those would like to see more data collected on the issue. Certain individuals would be allowed to update the burn pit registry with a cause of death under the measure (H.R. 1381). The measure’s prospects are “decent” in the Senate, according to Sen. Jon Tester (Mont.), the top Democrat on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Tester said it’s an issue that generates bipartisan support.
At the White House, Trump today will participate in a signing ceremony for an executive order on veterans.

Today is the 74th anniversary of raising the US flag on Iwo Jima

One of World War II's most iconic events was captured by photo 74 years ago today on Feb. 23, 1945. Six U.S. Marines hoisted a pole bearing the American flag at Mount Suribachi during World War II's Battle of Iwo Jima. It was the second flag of two flags erected on the mountain that day, marking the...

Hello! I wanted to let you know about an armed forces event coming to your area this weekend! Boots on the Ground Theater will be touring Grounded to the Central Rappahanock Regional library (1201 Caroline Street. Fredericksburg, VA) this Saturday evening at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:00PM. Their will be a post-show discussion led by Ms. Repasky, a clinician at the PG County Vet Center in Maryland (Sat,) and Ms. Harris-Hutchinson, the Director of the Alexandria Vet Center (Sun.) The discussion will be centered around the issues that the play addresses, including moral injury, PTSD, readjustment, drone ethics, and more. The discussion is not only a time for audience members to reflect, but also a time to build understanding around the kinds of trauma that our service men and women encounter. The tour has been met with incredible support from the military and civilian community’s alike. We cannot wait to share this story with you! We offer free seats for armed forces members and their families should the need arise. We are dedicated to making a way for anyone to be able to attend who wishes to! Please help us spread the word about this event. For more information find us on facebook (Boots on the Ground Theater) or email us at [email protected]
