AFAC is growing and our mission is evolving with us.

Since our mission, vision, and core beliefs were last updated in 2011, the need in our community has more than doubled. This past year, we served 4,000+ families every week, with 1 in 10 Arlington residents coming to our doors.

This update reflects us, our community today, and will guide our work for years to come.💚

Each year, the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) surveys our members to learn more about their experiences, needs, and how we can continue improving our programs and services.

In March 2026, 2,052 AFAC members shared their feedback, a 49.1% response rate! Their insights help guide our work and ensure we’re meeting the needs of our community.

Summer should be a time for fun, but for thousands of families, it's a season of added challenges. With school out, many children no longer have access to the meals they rely on, while grocery bills and household expenses continue to climb.

This summer, more than 4,200 families are depending on AFAC for healthy, nutritious food. Every donation helps put meals on the table for neighbors who need them most.

On June 14, AFAC had the pleasure of recognizing all of the hard work, dedication, and time our volunteers put in to our mission of fighting hunger in our Arlington community.

Our work is reliant on our incredible network of volunteers who celebrated a record-breaking 51,000+ hours of service this past year! Though we could not invite every volunteer to our event, we are grateful for everyone's help in achieving our mission.💚🤝

Last week, we had the privilege of honoring longtime AFAC volunteer Randy Randall for his extraordinary dedication and service.

Over the past 17 years, Randy has contributed an incredible 5,616 volunteer hours - more than any volunteer in AFAC's history! In recognition of this milestone, we proudly inducted him into AFAC's 4160 Society!🎉

The 2080 Society recognizes volunteers who have given 2,080 hours of service - the equivalent of one full year of full-time work. The 4160 Society honors those who have reached 4,160 hours, equivalent to two full years of full-time service. Randy is just one of two volunteers to achieve this distinction.

We are delighted to honor Field to Table as AFAC's 2026 Community Partner of the Year! Through this partnership we provided our clients with over 42,000 lbs last year from four Field to Table markets. AFAC currently serves more than 4,000 families each week. This fresh and delicious food provides these families with more healthy choices and helps reduce the amount of money we spend on produce.

This picture, taken last week at the , shows just some of the great volunteers who help at six local farmers' markets each week between May and November. We could not do this without their help! Thank you Field to Table for an amazing collaboration!

Our first-ever Spirit Week was a big hit! 🎉

We showed love for our favorite sports teams, went groovy with tie-dye, honored our history with food-themed outfits, groaned over bad puns, celebrated beloved book and movie characters, and relived some iconic decades.

While there were no official prizes, we wanted to give a special shout out to a few standout participants:

🏈 Sports Day: Maura with her Nats shirt, hat, and earrings!
🌈 Tie-Dye Day: Carolyn and Tyree with their matching outfits!
🍕 Food Day: Maria and her pizza costume!
😂 Pun Day: Leo — “Sticks to your ribs!”
🏴‍☠️ Character Day: Rob, who went 100% all in as Jack Sparrow!

We took a moment to celebrate and say goodbye to Bruce H (center) as he begins a new chapter in Ohio! For the past 10 years, Bruce has been a familiar face at AFAC, volunteering on most Fridays and bringing both compassion and great music to our staff and volunteers.

We’ll miss his kindness, dedication, and friendship, and we know he’ll miss his AFAC family too. Thank you, Bruce, for everything you’ve given to our community over the years!💚
