It's Throwback Thursday! Check out this snapshot from Aug. 5, 1985, of the historic Brazos House dormitory. Since 1936, it provided a home for countless UTA students.

Though Brazos House is no longer standing, its legacy continues in Brazos Park, a beautiful space dedicated in 2019 to honor its history.

Happy Fourth of July, Mavericks. Today, we celebrate the founding of the United States by the second Continental Congress, which ratified the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

Through this ratification, the delegates of the Second Continental Congress declared that the Thirteen Colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain, King George III. Each year across the country, fireworks are set off to commemorate the day.

Tomorrow, we will celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery. The first Juneteenth occurred on June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay. Major General Gordon ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas more than two years after President Lincoln issued it.

Below are photos of previous Juneteenth celebrations held at Sycamore Park in Fort Worth.
