It’s official! Today the County Board unanimously passed collective bargaining for Arlington County workers. 44 years after the Supreme Court of VA declared it unconstitutional. It’s a new beginning. Thank you to the County Board and to all that supported us. #ACFD

So the question must be asked: Why can’t we be part of potential layoff or transfer discussions? In other communities where layoffs and transfers are open for collective discussions, firefighters have found viable options to keep everyone working and make sure the right people are in the best places for their skills. These solutions keep the community safer. This is what happens when firefighters have a seat at the table.

To maximize the benefits of the collective bargaining ordinance, it is critical that the people who make Arlington County work and the county management team discuss every issue. To isolate one or the other undermines the entire process. This is not the way to give taxpayers a strong return on their investment.

We would like to take a moment on the anniversary of the Line of Duty Death that Anthony Phillips Sr. made while serving to protect life and property. Among our own ranks is Anthony Phillips Jr., who continues in the footsteps of his father honoring the highest FD traditions.

On May 30th, 1999, Firefighter Anthony S. Phillips Sr., Engine Co. 10, died in the Line of Duty from burns and smoke inhalation incurred while fighting a townhouse fire at 3146 Cherry Road NE, 2nd Alarm on Box 6178. Never Forget.

In the continued response to the #covid19 response, #acfd hazardous materials team members assigned to fire house 101 and 109, decontaminate all transport units in the county. This is an added measure to keep fellow first responders and citizens safe by using a special machine to spray a decontamination solution to the equipment using a positive charge to better cover all surfaces. This procedure is done on a weekly basis in addition to personnel decontaminating every morning and between each emergency call. #hazmat #fire #ems #washyourhands #coveryourface

Arlington County Virginia – Government

In response to a request from Arlington County and four other localities, the Governor of Virginia issued an executive order allowing Arlington to delay implementation of Phase One of the “Forward Virginia” plan until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 28. http://ow.ly/vem850zF2hx

Entering Phase One in Arlington and other Northern Virginia jurisdictions, which eases restrictions on certain business operations that were put in place in response to COVID-19, will not begin until key health metrics can be met in the region.

Until then, the region will remain in “Phase Zero” of the Governor’s Forward Virginia plan.
