A few scenes from yesterday’s Memorial Day Festival & Parade. 📸🇺🇸🚑

FCVFD was proud to support the City of Falls Church during yesterday’s community remembrance and celebration as we honored those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Our volunteers spent the day staffing a first aid station, standing by with our ambulance and utility vehicle, and helping support the event from start to finish.

Throughout the day, visitors also stopped by our history tent to learn more about the department and our longstanding connection to the Falls Church community. We even made an appearance in the parade with our ambulance, utility vehicle, and “Old Tom.” Purchased in 1918, Old Tom is FCVFD’s oldest motorized fire apparatus and was actively used to respond to calls until the 1960s. We were proud to participate alongside many other local community groups and organizations.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s event a success, and thank you to our volunteers who dedicated their holiday weekend to serving the community.

Early mornings. Late nights. Training drills. Community events. Emergency calls. 🚑

EMS is made up of countless moments. Some challenging, some rewarding, and many that happen quietly behind the scenes.

During National EMS Week, we want to recognize the volunteer and career providers who show up every day ready to help others. Thank you to our FCVFD volunteers and the Arlington County career personnel arlingtonvafd we work alongside for the care, teamwork, and dedication you bring to the community.

We’re proud to serve alongside you. 💙

Congratulations to Terry on officially being cleared as an FCVFD ambulance driver! 🚑👏

Over the past several months, Terry has dedicated hours to training, developing new skills, and taking on additional responsibilities. We’re proud to have Terry behind the wheel and look forward to seeing him continue to grow as a provider and member of the department.

Congratulations, Terry! 🎉

Some people wear a lot of hats: mom, mentor, professional, teammate. At FCVFD, some of our volunteers wear all of them. 💐🚑

This Mother’s Day, we’re recognizing the moms in our department who dedicate their time not only to their families, but also to serving the Falls Church community. Whether they’re responding to calls, leading training, supporting fellow volunteers, or helping behind the scenes, their impact reaches far beyond the ambulance bay.

We’re grateful for the many ways they care for others both inside and outside the station.

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms of FCVFD and to all the mothers in our community. 💙

Happy National Nurses Week! 🩺💙

We’d like to thank the nurses who make an impact both in our department and throughout the healthcare system every day.

At FCVFD, we’re especially grateful for Captain JJ Elliott, an L&D nurse, EMT, FCVFD Trustee, and our department’s Training Officer. Since joining FCVFD in 2018, she has played a major role in mentoring volunteers, leading recruit school, coordinating continuing education, and helping prepare our members to provide the highest level of care possible. 🚑 Capt. Elliott brings care and dedication to every role she serves in.

Thank you to all nurses, including the nurses at the hospitals throughout our territory who continue patient care after we arrive in the ER. Your skill, compassion, and commitment make a difference every day. We appreciate you! 💙

Here’s to the next generation of EMTs. 🥤🚑

Over the past few weeks, FCVFD has had the pleasure of partnering with Meridian High School to support students in their EMT course. Through ride-alongs, they got a taste of firehouse life and saw firsthand how our department serves the community.

We’re excited to see what’s ahead as they continue their training and take the next steps in their EMS journeys.

Warmer weather means more people out walking, biking, and enjoying the community, and more shared roadways for everyone.

Here are a few safety reminders as we head into spring:

🌸 Slow down in neighborhoods and near crosswalks. Many pedestrian crashes happen right where people are supposed to be safest.

🌸 Make eye contact with drivers before crossing and stay alert, even in marked crosswalks.

🌸 Ride bicycles and scooters predictably, obey traffic signals, and stay visible to others on the road.

🌸 Stay alert. A few extra seconds of attention can make all the difference.

Let’s look out for one another this season. 🚑
