NCT9-1-1 went through a mapping upgrade that added new features for our service area: 9-1-1 Chat and Enhanced Location.

9-1-1 Chat allows call takers to chat directly with you over text. This chat will come from a 10-digit number to your device and can be translated to over 70 languages. Text-to-9-1-1 is also available in our service area, which is initiated by you directly texting the digits "9-1-1."

Enhanced Location sends a text from a 10-digit number to your device containing a link. If you click the link, your location will be sent to the 9-1-1 call taker.

Today marks the beginning of Public Safety Telecommunications Week, where we show our appreciation for almost 4,000 9-1-1 telecommunicators across Texas for being the first, first responders. These headset heroes are the first thing our citizens hear when they're going through the worst day of their lives, and we are proud to serve them as a 9-1-1 authority.

This week, thank a telecommunicator or share this proclamation from Governor Abbot to show your support for the thin gold line.

PSA: How Does Kari's Law Affect Your School District - NCT9-1-1

Schools in Texas should be compliant with Kari's Law. That means office phones that require a prefix digit to reach an outside line have direct dialing to 9-1-1, so no "9" necessary. This could save lives by preventing a delayed response during an emergency.

Watch our PSA to learn more.

How Does Kari's Law Affect Your School?

Kari's Law requires multi-line telephone systems (MLTS) to have direct dialing to 9-1-1. Schools have office and classroom phones that require a prefix digit, like "9," to dial and outside line. This includes dialing 9-1-1. Find out how you can protect your staff and students at our Kari's Law resource page: https://www.nct911.org/karislaw/
