The H-B Woodlawn Program is designed to provide our students with more control over their education than traditional comprehensive schools permit. We prize self-motivation and self-discipline in our students, for we know that these characteristics are vital for success here. We also work hard to inculcate these habits in our students, incrementally increasing freedom and expectations of responsibility through the grades.

Scavenger Hunt on the night before the first day of school … a tradition that endures. Thanks to station 10 for playing along (and for keeping Rosslyn safe)! See you all in the morning (and check Canvas to see the schedule for the day).

Join us in song as the HBW Community Chorus returns for the 14th year! The HBW Community Chorus is an opportunity for anyone who is interested in singing (students, teachers, staff, alumni, parents, neighbors, friends, etc.), to come together for a few rehearsals, learn how to sing, practice a few pieces, and perform at the Winter Choral Concert. NO experience is necessary, and ALL are welcome! If you've always wanted to try a chorus, if you sang in chorus in high school and wish you still did, if you think you CAN'T sing and just want validation of that, if you're a renowned opera soloist, feel welcomed.

It is a short term, manageable commitment, only rehearsing a few times and then performing. The rehearsal schedule is VERY flexible, and somewhat optional… It's more about the fellowship than it is about the musical product. AND, we get to sing TOGETHER!

Our rehearsals this year will be on MONDAY evenings, 7:30-8:30pm in the HBW Chorus Room. Our first of three rehearsals will be the Monday 12/4, followed by 12/11 and 12/18. Our rehearsals culminate with a performance during our Winter Choral Concert on 12/19.

If you have any questions, please feel contact Bill Podolski, director of choral activities ([email protected]). We look forward to bringing together this wonderful ensemble once again!

HBW mourns the loss of our former choir director, Carol Erion. Carol began teaching at HBW in the late 90s as a music teacher, and created our first official chorus. One of Carol's favorite memories at HBW was taking her students on a cultural exchange to Cuba. After HBW, Carol served as APS's Art Education Supervisor. More about Carol's inspiring life can be read here: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/washingtonpost/name/carol-erion-obituary?id=52577706

A celebration of Carol's life is scheduled for Saturday, September 30th at 2:00pm. A chorus of APS music teachers and HBW alumni will offer 2 songs in tribute. Students of Carol who wish to participate can email HBW's current chorus teacher at [email protected].
