Today, we have a group of Elders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helping us pack grocery bags for our clients. They will pack 168 bags with canned food, goldfish, soup, raisins, pasta, and other shelf stable goodies.

The Elders are part of a group of around thirty youth missionaries stationed in Arlington. Each week, they rotate volunteers between local organizations like Mission Arlington, The City of Arlington, and Arlington Charities.

Consequently, they are extremely busy days with hundreds of clients being served in an efficient manner. Luckily, we have some extra help today. A large squad of volunteers from the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program of Tarrant County are here on a group volunteer day. We also have our group from Arco Contractors Supply Company and many regular volunteers helping work the line.

Sometimes, it takes a village. Arlington Charities is grateful to have such a wonderful community to help us provide help and create hope.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, Arlington Charities distributes lunches to 12-18 homeless individuals in Arlington. Volunteer, Eve, starts by gathering supplies from our warehouse. She likes to find healthier items like salads and vegetables because many of the homeless are health conscious. Clients get several lunch items, water bottles, desserts, fruit, and on Fridays will receive hygiene items and goodie bags to get them through the weekend. Eve used to be a caterer, so she likes to set up her table as attractively as possible and allow clients to choose which items they want to take. She knows all of the clients by name and often remembers what types of food they like.

Just another quality Arlington Charities program that allows us to provide help and create hope in our community.

It is with a heavy heart that we remember former Arlington Charities employee, Dorina Ramos Sanchez, who recently passed away. Dorina was a popular presence around Arlington Charities, where she had worked for 18 years before retiring last year. She was known for her sense of humor, her love of the Dallas Cowboys, and her love for the Arlington Charities staff and clients. Even after retiring, Dorina liked to come volunteer. One of her favorite events was our annual holiday toy drive, which she loved to set up and orchestrate. Dorina had a tremendous impact on Arlington Charities, as well as the people that worked there. She will be dearly missed.

Week one of early giving for North Texas Giving Day is almost over. So far, we have raised $17,295 out of our $60,000 goal! That equals approximately 173 families that can be fed for one whole month thanks to your efforts!

Thank you to all who donated and made such a huge impact in such a short amount of time. Let's keep that momentum going!

Arco Contractors Supply Company often sends workers to volunteer at our mobile pantries. Last time they were volunteering, workers noticed that clients were having trouble following the paths set by our tiny traffic cones and sometimes even running them over. To attempt to fix this problem, they decided to donate 10 large traffic cones that are impossible to miss. Thank you Arco Contractors for seeing a problem and generously deciding to fix it!

The church of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donates trucks full of food to charities around the U.S. as part of their Covid-19 relief efforts. Yesterday, Arlington Charities and Arlington Urban Ministries were selected to split a truck full of 24,000 pounds of food. Food was first unloaded into the Arlington Charities truck by AC staff. It was then placed into storage by Latter Day Saints and JustServe.org volunteers.

"It was a no brainer," said Arlington Stake president of the Latter Day Saints, Mark Davies. "We chose Arlington Charities because of their ability to help out families in their community with basic necessities. It was one of the first charities on our minds to donate to."

City of Arlington, TX - City Hall

Yesterday, representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came to Arlington Charities to drop off a semi truck full of 24,000 pounds of food to be split between Arlington Charities and Arlington Urban Ministries. The event was met with a lot of fanfare, including local news stations coming to cover the donation, and exuberant volunteers from the church and JustServe.org helping to properly store food. Our hearts could not be more full of gratitude and this donation will go a long way towards helping families in Arlington.

Be sure to check the Arlington Charities page later today for more coverage from the event.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made a significant food donation to Arlington Charities and Arlington Urban Ministries to help both nonprofits provide pantry staples to residents who are struggling financially during COVID-19. Learn more ➡️ ow.ly/XmlO50BghN7 #ArlingtonKindness ❤️
