Kevin Betts made North Arlington his home just about time the COVID-19 shutdown was underway. During lockdown, he researched many local nonprofits and charities to determine which organization would the right fit for his desire to give back to his community – he chose Arlington Charities.

‘The best part of my week is hanging out with other people here,’ says Kevin. He has been a regular volunteer at the food pantry every Friday for the past 5 months.

Kevin is the also the owner of Novel Coffee Roasting in Dallas. And as if that doesn’t elevate his cool factor enough, he sports some really rad ink and is often seen jetting around town on his Ducati sport bike.

Kevin admits his wife’s excellent cooking skills outweigh his attempts any day. However, he does claims the title of amateur mixologist. His favorite cocktail to make is a Negroni, a popular Italian concoction served on the rocks with gin.

Cheers to our volunteer Kevin!

Today, an Arlington Charities volunteer surprised a client experiencing homelessness with a brand new bike. This client has been starting to get job offers and wanted an easier way to transport himself to interviews.

Previously, he was walking around eight miles every day in a zip up hoodie to keep the sun off of his skin. With his brand new bike, he'll be able to get where he needs to go with much less effort.

"'Specialized,' this is a top notch bike brand," the client claimed with feverish excitement!

Volunteering with Arlington Charities for the third time, Earl and Marguerite had quite the task today of sorting through 6 pallets piled high with produce and fruit.

The Hamptons have been Arlington residents since 1983, raised their family here and got involved with AC as a regular donor many years ago through First United Methodist Church, their home church.

As a pediatrician, over the years Earl often referred his patients to AC to help them through tough times. Now that the couple is retired, they wanted to give back to their community by donating time at their favorite nonprofit.

‘We like the aspect of helping provide food for those who need it,’ says Marguerite.

Earl enjoys being able to express his faith through volunteerism and is passionate about doing his part to help stamp out hunger. He said, ‘Food is a basic need that everyone should have, Arlington Charities is great at helping meet that need.’

Isolation has affected many of our lives over the past year, but for seniors, mobility impaired, and homebound individuals, this additional cut off from the outside world is even more debilitating.

Arlington Charities is implementing a new program where volunteers and visitors can send handwritten cards with our monthly delivery packages, to let our homebound clients know that we are thinking of them. Cards are provided at Arlington Charities or you can drop off your own, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM.

Thank you for helping us brighten some days!

Our volunteers are plenty sweet enough already, but even the sweetest things can be made sweeter with a steady supply of ice cream.

In an unparalleled case of the Sundae Friyays, our team stacked scoops up to the sky and drenched them in hot fudge and sprinkles. After a hard days work at the drive through food pantry, these sweet treats really hit the spot!

Studies show that being comfortable and clean promotes positive thinking and a better outlook. That is why, in addition to food, we offer our clients a variety of hygiene products and cleaning supplies with each visit.

Today, our volunteers sorted through sixty heaping boxes of hygiene supplies from the Tarrant Area Food Bank. This massive abundance of laundry detergents, deodorants, shaving items, and more will go directly to Arlington families in need.

Our Story

Arlington Charities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping to stabilize families, individuals and the homeless by helping them cover their most basic needs. The charity specializes in food, clothing, hygiene items, financial literacy classes, food and toys for the holidays, and information and referral services. We were founded in 1978 and have been dutifully serving the Arlington Community for over 40 years. AC is currently the largest food pantry in the city and the only client choice pantry for local individuals! We try to make a big difference in our community. In 2017 the charity served over 55,000 residents with over 1,067,549 pounds of food.

Thank you Arlington Charities for the food i received today. And thank you to the volunteers for their hard work. Love to all. Blesses.
Thank you for the food i received at the food pantry/bank. I dont have to worry about feeding myself and my dogs this month. Your foundation is a Godsend.
I am writing to find out if your organization can help me get a vehicle so I can become self-sufficient. By profession, I am a recruiter with over 27 years’ experience. I was forced to retire (social security) in Aug 2019 after being out of work for a year. I was 63 at the time. As I went through my unemployment period, I lost the things I could no longer pay. The car went first. I was still trying to find work but had no way to get to jobs because public transportation was either unavailable or too far to walk. I have arthritis, so walking long distances is complicated and getting on and off a bus is a sight to see. Trust me; face-plants are painful. Because of the above, I applied for remote positions (pre-COVID) and had no luck there either. After losing or selling all I had of any value, I finally used it for retirement even though I had no desire to do so. At least then I would pay my rent. I opened a resume prep service and earned enough to meet basic needs but nothing extra. I started to make some headway when in December 2019, LinkedIn, the platform I used to get resume leads, shut down my account. That caused me to lose 2/3 of my income, and I have to get legal help to find out why. Efforts to get my account back or legal assistance have been met with general apathy or derision, as in “Get a job, you slob.”. Because of being out of work so long, my credit is in the toilet. No dealership will work with me and keep telling me I need a co-signer (that makes me angry because I work hard in my life and am not an irresponsible punk). Alternatively, they want a sizeable down payment, and the payments are the size of the gross national product of a small country. If I had a vehicle, I could get back into the workforce and be a productive citizen again. I could also pick up inventory for my online stores and have the money I need to get by. I would love to get a car and make monthly payments until I get a job, then I can pay for it like a normal human being. Thanks for reading this. I need help. I have not been able to go anywhere other than my mailbox since April 2019, and I feel a little cabin-happy. Please let me know what can be done. Thanks
