A huge thank you to our longtime donors, Pantego Lions Club, for their generous $5,000 donation. This service based organization wanted to give Arlington Charities a leg up on next years Help and Hope Celebrity Chef Showcase Fundraiser.

We've partnered with the Lions Club for over thirty years and could not be more grateful for their generosity!

It was a youth invasion at last Friday's Tarrant County College Mobile Food Pantry. Our young volunteer crews worked together like champs to provide food to over 895 individuals.

Seventeen and Eighteen year old students from the Mansfield ECHS National Honor Society were first time volunteers, but they could've fooled us. The hard working service group were expertly sorting food with our seasoned volunteers in no time.

High school and college age missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought their a-game. These volunteer veterans knocked it out of the park.

If you would also like to contribute to feeding families in need this holiday season, please consider a monetary donation. Every donation throughout the month of December is doubled by our matching fund: https://bit.ly/31qLX03

12/20/2021

Please be advised that Arlington Charities will be closed this Friday, December 24th through Sunday, January 2nd. We will reopen on Monday, January 3rd.

If you are in need of food while we are away, the Tarrant Area Food Bank has additional food pantries listed on their website by location: http://tafb.org/find-food/

Today, the Arlington Charities volunteer force was joined by the Arlington Police Department Domestic Crimes Unit and Commissioner Devan Allen, PCT. 2 for a busy day of providing holiday food to families in need.

"The holiday season is a powerful time, but it can also be a stressful time," asserted Commissioner Allen. "Many are still struggling and the added stress of the pandemic, social justice issues, and February's winter storm have made this a particularly hard year for everybody. That is why I think it is important to give back."

Torchy's Tacos stopped by today to bring some of their delicious food plus gift cards for our staff and clients.

In order to contribute to their community Torchy's Tacos has been picking a new nonprofit every few weeks and encouraging patrons to purchase gift cards for their clients. The staff seemed very impressed with Arlington Charities and would like to work with us more in the future!

Arlington Charities is incredibly unique among food pantries in that we provide fresh produce to our families every day. In November, we provided a landmark 70,000 pounds of produce for our clients in need to enjoy for the holidays.

We could not be more proud of the volunteers who work diligently every day to sort through mountains of produce. This could not be done without them.

If you would like to join in the fight to keep Arlington healthy, please consider donating this holiday season at: https://bit.ly/31qLX03

Yesterday, twenty seniors from the Martin High School Key Club wrote thoughtful holiday cards for clients in our grocery delivery program.

This service based club is made up of 300 kids who love to volunteer at schools and charities around the Arlington community. They loved working with Arlington Charities and are excited to volunteer with us further!

"The seniors really liked writing cards and it was a very comfortable project for them," said Georgia, our volunteer coordinator. "They all thought it was a good way to give comfort to those experiencing isolation during the holidays."

Today, we have our favorite caffeinated volunteers from Dutch Bros Coffee helping create holiday food bags in our sorting room. The first part of their strategy is to dissemble leftover bags from our Thanksgiving distribution and re-sort the food. They will then fill in the gaps with donations and holiday food from our pantry. The coffee crew has already made good headway through one pallet of food and are jittery to move on to another!

Alejandro has been a big fan of Arlington Charities ever since he learned of the organization six months ago from a family member. He is so appreciative of the good, healthy food he receives for his family of five, which also includes a granddaughter. Orange and apple juice, along with a variety of bread, eggs and bottled water are just a few of the favored items that are loaded into Alejandro’s trunk when he visits the drive through market.

COVID isolation, economic woes pressure North Texas nonprofits - Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter, Kailey Broussard, recently sat down with our pantry manager, Robin Wheeler, to chat about the growing number of families in need of food during this holiday season.

According to Robin, Arlington Charities is hot off the heels of our largest Thanksgiving Distribution yet and that momentum is expected to carry into the Holiday Season.

“I drive past the pantry all the time and have always been curious. When COVID came along, I looked up Arlington Charities online to learn about what services were provided.

The drive-through food pantry has given me a chance to put my money towards other bills. I love receiving the variety of produce that is offered with the grocery pick up. However, the beans and rice are my favorite!”

Welcome to Chester and Gary's Bake Shop, the new Arlington Charities attraction that has been taking our clients by storm! The two volunteers started meticulously arranging our desserts on a display table after noticing that they tended to get hidden with our bread items. Now, clients can see exactly what desserts are available and pick out whichever one they want.

The dessert shop has been getting a lot of positive feedback from staff and clients alike. We are lucky to have such an innovative volunteer team!

The Arlington Charities Program Director, Robert, was checking in a woman at our St. Andrews Mobile Food Market. When he asked what her household income was, she said zero because she had been unemployed due to the pandemic.

Robert was quick to tell her about our other services that may be able to help her as well, but the woman politely declined. "I am very grateful for the food I am receiving today, but I would rather give back instead," she said. "I got a job starting on Monday," she continued with tears in her eyes. Robert and the woman chatted for a while and he ended up giving her information on how to volunteer.

Kindness has a way of coming back around. We were very touched by this story and are ready to welcome a new volunteer with open arms!

We Love the impact one lady and family has had on many aspects of our community. The passing of Shirley Kost has been felt community wide most famously as a Texas Rangers Super Fan or also know as the Cookie Lady. This Pantego resident and Arlington Charities volunteer loved Arlington, her community, her Rangers but most importantly her family. Ranger front office to staff and players all knew her and her love for people. Our hearts are still heavy with the news but she now has the best seat in the house to cheer on her Rangers! #ilovearlingtontx #shirleykost #rangerssuperfans #texasrangers #cookielady #arlingtoncharities #locallegends #arlingtontx

Each second Saturday of the month, the Dallas/Fort Worth Platoon teams up with Arlington Charities and Tarrant Area Food Bank to assist at a mobile food pantry held at Saint Andrews United Methodist Church as part of Operation Nourish. Their help allows the food pantry to feed between 450-500 families! This month, they were joined by the Texas Veterans Network and members of Sigma Phi Psi, some who even drove up from Houston and San Antonio to help out!
Thank you Arlington Charities for the food i received today. And thank you to the volunteers for their hard work. Love to all. Blesses.
#ArlingtonTX is proud to celebrate Community Development Week and the important services made possible with CDBG and HOME! #CDBG is helping underserved communities during the pandemic. One example is Arlington Charities, a local nonprofit that used CDBG to enhance access to their facility and parking lot right before the pandemic. CDBG funds also allowed the organization to meet the increased demand for food and supplies in their drive through pantry. We are thankful that Arlington Charities was able to meet the challenge and help so many families in need. #CDWeek2021 ❤️
Thank you for the food i received at the food pantry/bank. I dont have to worry about feeding myself and my dogs this month. Your foundation is a Godsend.
