We love getting feedback from our community. Tonight, Cindy Martin sent this message to us:

“Hi, I just want to share something with you that happened today.
I had to have the assistance of the Arlington PD today. My work car totally died at a red light on Fiedler and Mitchell today. The Flashers wouldn’t even work.
Anyway I called 911 dispatcher was quick to send someone to my rescue. In the meantime I was diverting traffic so they wouldn’t ram the car. The first Police Officer was very kind. Then another came and the first one left. Wish I would have gotten their badge numbers. The 2nd Police Officer was very Nice Also and stayed with me til a tow truck came then took me took enterprise to get my rental. I’ve worked in Arlington for 16 years. And this was the first time I’ve ever had any kind of encounter with the Arlington PD.
They took very good care of me today and I Appreciate that very much.
And I Appreciate You for All that you do.
I just didn’t want their kindness to go unnoticed.
Thank You”

APD Body Worn Camera of the Week Ep. 2: PSAs Zuniga & Fues Investigate "Unknown Creature" Call

We get some pretty interesting calls into our 911 dispatch -- but they're not typically THIS interesting!!

At around 9:00 Wednesday night, we received nearly a dozen calls about an unknown creature -- described by witnesses as "7-9 feet tall," "big as a gorilla," with "spikes and five legs" -- making its way down E. Arkansas Ave near Collins St.

Police Service Assistants (civilian employees who can respond to non-emergency calls, take reports, do parking enforcement, and help officers with other tasks) Josh Zuniga and Greg Fues were dispatched to go check it out.

They caught up with the "creature" -- who turned out to a be man simply testing out his very elaborate Halloween costume which required him to walk on stilts.

Check out our latest "APD Body Worn Camera of the Week" episode to see how they handled this unusual encounter!! Happy Halloween y'all!!

(***Note: A brief portion of the audio, which identifies the man in the costume, has been removed for his privacy. While the PSAs were on-scene, another citizen approached the man to take a photo of his costume. We have also blurred her face).

Our Coach 5-0 program has been a huge success and works to build mentoring relationships between student athletes and officers. One of our Coach 5-0 shining stars is Officer Cody Adams. Today, Cody received the “Extra Mile” Servant Leader of the Year Award given by the Arlington Alliance 4 Youth.

These awards are designed to recognize caring adults in Arlington who go the “extra mile” to help youth develop and mature. They epitomize servant leadership which focuses first on service to others (youth) and then on building helpful community support. Cody is assigned to our Traffic Unit and volunteers his time on and off the playing field with AISD students.

Award recipients receive a special trophy recognizing them as an “Extra Mile” Servant Leader of the Year and are given the opportunity to designate a 501(c)3 charity to receive a $1,500 donation in their honor from First Rate, Inc. Cody shared with us that the charity he chose to have a donation made in his name will be to the The Nex Foundation. This foundation strives to educate and build sustainable positive character in young men though life skills, etiquette, professional development, community engagement, conflict resolution, financial literacy and leadership.

Thank you to the First Rate Investment Performance Group who sponsors the awards.

Congrats Cody, Great job going the extra mile!

This weather apparently has our social media team off their game a little -- they ALMOST forgot to share this week's ADORABLE edition of #FureverFriday!! But fortunately for you, they came through at the last minute 😉

This is Daisy Yokley, a civilian employee who helps take non-emergency reports from citizens. And she'd like you to meet her pal Knuckles, a 1 1/2-year-old Rottweiler mix!!

Knuckles is a pretty chill boy who loves pets and rubs -- and who will ABSOLUTELY respond to dog treats!! He is heartworm positive, so he will need a family who can help him manage that.

Because he's been at the shelter for a little while, his adoption fees have been reduced to $25!!

If you'd like to give Knuckles a "furever" home, you can visit him at City of Arlington, TX - Animal Services, which is located at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd.

Be sure to give shelter staff his ID number when you visit: 456608566

APD Body Worn Camera of the Week Ep. 1: Sgt. Robertson Makes Balloon Animals for Kids

Did you know that all of our officers wear body-worn cameras that record audio and video of interactions?

That’s a lot of videos -- and we have decided to start sharing everyday clips featuring routine activities that our officers perform. Digital media isn’t going anywhere and helps bolster trust with the community and police.

In this week’s clip, Sgt. Robert Robertson was simply out on patrol and saw some kids in the neighborhood so he pulled over and made some K9 balloons for them.

This is one of thousands of videos that go unnoticed. We hope you enjoy this new weekly series.

(***Note: Because this video shows an interaction with children, we have blurred their faces for their privacy)

Officer Czap and Officer Kishanuk were dispatched to a possum stuck in a cat carrier near Bert Dr. Officers put on their animal control hats and decided that the newly named “Bert the Possum” needed an upgrade in his living situation. Bert let it be known that he would prefer plenty of room to roam and lots of trees so officers offered him a free ride to River Legacy Park. Bert took an immediate liking to his new habitat and thanked the officers by not expressing displeasure towards them as they set him free.

This morning, Deputy Chief Os Flores and Sgt Ronald Herd from our South Patrol District joined members of the city’s Neighborhood Enhancement Team and other volunteers to help clean up several homes in the Fish Creek community.

Crews did everything from picking up litter, to trimming overgrown trees and shrubs, to helping residents with some much needed yard maintenance.

The goal was to help citizens avoid future visits from code enforcement, to give them a sense of pride in their neighborhood — and most importantly — to show that their city cares!!

Great work by all!!!
