Supreme Court Upholds Religious and Moral Exemptions for ACA Birth Control Coverage | Feminist Newswire

"Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court is a devastating blow to millions of women, transgender, and nonbinary people who rely on their employer-provided healthcare to cover the high costs of contraceptives. This move gives their employers the power to make decisions about their employee’s healthcare without their consent,” said the Feminist Majority Foundation in a statement. “This decision hurts most those who can least afford birth control including young women, poor women, and disproportionately women of color. Today’s ruling emphasizes the urgent need for Congress to codify the coverage of contraceptives as part of the preventative healthcare package included in the ACA.”

In a 7-2 decision, the Supreme Court upheld a Trump Administration rule which expands the types of organizations that can claim religious or moral exemptions under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The rule allows these organizations to refuse to cover birth control under their health insurance plans.....

The Feminist Majority Foundation Applauds Supreme Court Decision on DACA | Feminist Newswire

“The Supreme Court has reinforced what we have known from the beginning of this fight: this country is the home of the Dreamers,” said Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation. “The uncertainty and fear the Dreamers and their families have been living with as this case made its’ way through the courts is unconscionable. DACA recipients are a vital part of the fabric of our communities and deserve a life free from the fear of deportation. We celebrate this decision and demand that the Senate pass the DREAM Act, which has already been passed by the House, to make this temporary win permanent. We need to establish a clear path to citizenship for the Dreamers and all undocumented people.”

Today, by a ruling of 5-4, The Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In a major win for the immigrant rights movement, the ruling will allow almost 700,000 “Dreamers” who were brought to the U.S. as children t...

Below are resources to help you continue (or start) taking action and stay in the fight against racial injustice. We have included racial justice and civil rights organizations who are doing this work everyday, as well as actions you can take right now and ways to further educate yourself on racial justice and allyship.

75 Things White People Can Do for Racial Justice

We stand in solidarity with the Black community and are committed to ending white supremacy, as we cannot achieve gender equity without racial equity. The two are intertwined. White people must take action, and do the work to confront police brutality and racism wherever it's found. Black lives matter.

Here is a link to 75 things white people can do for racial justice. This work may take a lifetime, but it is our responsibility to fight for justice and make amends for centuries of violence and oppression. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

General information

The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF) is a consciousness raising organization founded and led by Eleanor Smeal and inspired by the Newsweek/Gallup public opinion poll that showed the majority of women (56%) in the United States self-identified as feminists. Most polls since then reveal that this majority continues with over two-thirds of young women self-identifying as feminists. Most men, especially young men, view themselves as supporters of the women's rights movement.
