Pandemic and poverty: The long-term economic impact on people and services is anyone’s guess

The ongoing pandemic continues to bring uncertainty. However, Meals on Wheels remains a consistent presence that seniors can rely on in communities across the country.

Senior Spotlight: Joe

We love this initiative to send letters to isolated seniors, like Joe. Volunteers write messages of hope that make a lasting impact on those who receive them.

In the past, we have interviewed a few wonderful seniors who we send our letters and cards to. In addition to hearing about how your kind words make them feel, I love to learn about their life stories! This week, I had the pleasure of speaking to Joe, a senior we write to from Wingate Residences at....

Happy Veterans Day! The homes of thousands of veterans and their families are safe again, thanks to our partnership with The Home Depot Foundation. For veterans like Randy, who needed new stairs and a handrailing for his Alaska home, the repairs enable them to remain safe and independent in their own homes. These projects are one way we honor their bravery and commitment to our country.

In my humble opinion, Mount Vernon (10550) Department of Elderly Services may be the worst department in the history of this city. Their attempt @ "Meals on Wheels", puts shame on the national program. They disgust me.
Since Thursday, Sept 3, I have been trying to contact the Mount Vernon dept of elderly services or whatever TF it's called. I need meals on wheels for my elderly mother. I have made 20 calls since. I even tried New Rochelle. NR answers their phones. They kindly told me that I'm outside of their district but gave me a Mount Vernon number that was not listed for elderly assistance. I called the number and human being finally picked up. She explained Elderly Services only works three days a week. After I overcame that shocking information, the young lady offered to e-mail some bigshot city official to call me back. My point is this: Just when you think Mount Vernon is moving away from past corruption and decades-long abuse of its citizens, they bring you right back in. MV"city hall" is abysmal. The Elderly population of MV is in serious trouble. The moral of this story is that whoever is the person responsible for the terrible work being done by The Meals on Wheels in 10550 should be reckoned. I'm ashamed to be a part of this town. They use citizens like toilet paper. In conclusion, Mount Vernon's elderly department and Meals on Wheels are and always will be "the turds that won't flush". Jimmie Tisdale.
