From extended power outages to extreme weather emergencies, local Meals on Wheels providers can be a critical lifeline for older adults when they need it most.

Meals on Wheels continues to provide a lifeline after Gary and Northwest Indiana experience historic power outages as more than 500 volunteers on more than 50 routes work to serve around 2,200 meals daily.

When Melody lost her husband and later faced debilitating illnesses of her own, one loyal companion never left her side: Max, a little Chihuahua-miniature pinscher mix with a big heart.

Today, Meals On Wheels of Hillsborough County in N.H., with support from PetSmart Charities helps Melody care for Max by providing dog food and other essentials.

When a senior is homebound and unable to cook or shop, being placed on a waitlist can mean waiting for the help that keeps them nourished, connected and safe. We must treat senior hunger as the urgent national crisis it is and make sure help is available when seniors need it most.

Meals on Wheels West in Santa Monica has 93 seniors on a waitlist for home-delivered meals, the first in the organization's 50-year history, reflecting a deepening hunger crisis.

The Meals on Wheels Annual Conference & Expo brought together hundreds of staff and volunteers for four days of connecting, sharing and learning how we can meet the moment by addressing the new challenges that come with senior hunger and isolation in today's environment.

We are proud of all we accomplished this year:

• Celebrated wins across the network and the people who are changing and saving the lives of America’s older adults.
