Last Thursday, AHC wrapped up another great year of Summer Camp with a fun-filled Field Day at the park!

Campers enjoyed an afternoon full of face painting, volleyball, soccer, playground time, and snacks! It was a great way to close out a summer of fun, community, and learning

Thank you to Harkins Builders, AHC Visionary sponsor, for showing your support by grilling up delicious burgers and hot dogs, and to all the AHC volunteers and staff who helped make Field Day a day our students will remember.

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) has received a 2026 Thome Aging Well grant from Enterprise Community Partners to strengthen onsite health and wellness services at Charter House, AHC's 55+ affordable apartment community in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The year-long project converts an underused space at Charter House into a dedicated wellness and Resident Services area. Over the grant year, our Resident Services team will reach over 100 residents through health screenings, care coordination, and quarterly partner-led workshops.

"Residents at Charter House have told us they want to age in their own homes. This space gives our team a place to help them do that," said Michelle Kells, AHC Health Program Manager.

AHC joins 23 other organizations selected for this round of Thome Aging Well grants, made possible by Enterprise Community Partners with funding from the Edward N. and Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation, Bank of America trustee.

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is proud to have First Citizens Bank as a Benefactor sponsor of AHC’s 50th Anniversary.

On Wednesday, representatives from First Citizens Bank visited AHC. They arrived with a $26,000 check to support AHC's holistic Resident Services programming, including AHC’s growing education services. Then, they stayed to play a few rounds of Connect 4 with AHC students!

Carl Hairston, Damon Williams, and Tina Townsend joined Paul Bernard, AHC President & CEO, and Annie Sweeney, AHC Director of Individual & Corporate Giving, to learn more about how their ongoing support makes a difference for AHC residents.

AHC is also grateful for First Citizens’ ongoing volunteer service, including hosting family activities and leading financial education workshops for adults.

Nehemiah has been part of Affordable Homes & Communities' (AHC) education programming since kindergarten. This fall, he starts at Carnegie Mellon University.

During his keynote speech at this year's College & Career Readiness (CCR) program graduation, he turned to the parents, mentors, and supporters in the room and reminded them what their investment makes possible.

"The youth are the future," said Nehemiah. "The more we pour into them, the better hands society will be in."

50 days until we celebrate 50 years.

On Thursday, October 1, AHC is celebrating half a century of building affordable homes and stronger communities across the region. The evening brings together the residents, partners, volunteers, and supporters who made this milestone possible.

You'll hear from keynote speaker Gregg Colburn, one of the nation's leading voices on housing affordability, watch our youth contest winners take the stage, and dance to live music from the band Prime Time.

Reserve your seat before they're gone. See our tickets and sponsorship opportunities: ahcommunities.org/50years/

That's a wrap on AHC's College & Career Readiness (CCR) Summer Academy!

Students in grades 10 through 12 spent the summer building skills in communication, teamwork, creativity, budgeting, and networking. They learned just how hard it is to give clear enough instructions to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They explored how art can serve as a form of protest and a way to bring a community together. And they honed their ability to ask thoughtful questions, whether the person across from you is an Amazon employee or AHC President & CEO Paul Bernard.

Having fun is part of CCR, too! This year, students watched a heated FIFA World Cup semifinals match between England and Argentina.

As the school year draws near, AHC is proud to provide CCR students with a foundation they can build on in the classroom and beyond.

Credit to the workshop leaders and incredible partners who made it all happen, including from Studio PAUSE , Berkadia , and Amazon.com HQ2.

To round out a summer full of fun, learning, and growth, our Teen Summer Camp celebrated with an adventure at Upton Hill Regional Park (NOVA Parks)! ☀️

AHC teens climbed the ropes course, cooled off at the pool and splash pad, enjoyed some friendly competition at mini golf, and practiced their swings in the batting cages.

After a summer spent connecting with their peers, building skills, and giving back through volunteer opportunities, the group shared pizza and Chick-fil-A to fuel one last day of fun.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this summer a success for our teens! Learn more about AHC's programs: https://ahcommunities.org/resident-services/

🏗️ We’re celebrating another exciting milestone at Key’s Pointe!

We recently celebrated the topping off of the next phase of development, marking the placement of the final beam alongside our partners at Housing Authority of Baltimore City, The Michaels Organization, Bozzuto Construction Company, Moseley Inc., Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, and the entire Key’s Pointe project team.

The event brought partners together for lunch, reflection on how far the project has come, and a raffle to thank everyone helping bring this vision to life. The redevelopment is on track to deliver homes by the end of the year.

Milestones like this are a testament to the power of collaboration and our shared commitment to creating quality, affordable homes and stronger communities in Baltimore.

AHC residents are beating the heat with free shaved ice and splash park fun!🍧🌞

Kona Ice recently visited one of our Arlington communities, giving residents a chance to cool off with a sweet treat and connect with their neighbors. It was a blast for the whole family, with flavorful snow cones and time to play in the splash park!

At AHC, we believe strong communities are built through meaningful connections, and events like these help bring neighbors together while creating lasting memories.💛
