πŸŽ‰πŸš‘ Congratulations, Lt. George Strassburger! πŸš‘πŸŽ‰

The Arlington Emergency Management Agency is proud to recognize Lt. George Strassburger on earning his National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification.

Today, we pause to remember the brave Allied soldiers, sailors, airmen, and resistance fighters who took part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

In one of the largest military operations in history, thousands answered the call of duty, facing unimaginable challenges to secure a foothold in Europe and begin the liberation of a continent. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to freedom changed the course of history.

As members of the Arlington Emergency Management, we honor those who served and remember the values they defended: service, sacrifice, resilience, and dedication to others.

Let us never forget the heroes who stormed the beaches of Normandy, nor the generations who answered the call to protect liberty.

"We will remember them."

Today, Firefighter Robert β€œBobby” β€œBK” Kilduff Jr. is being laid to rest.

The members of the Arlington Emergency Management Agency join the fire service, emergency management, and public safety communities across Massachusetts in honoring his life, service, and sacrifice.

A proud member of Boston Fire Department Rescue Company 2, a United States Marine Corps veteran, and a dedicated public servant, Bobby answered the call to help others throughout his career. His loss is felt not only by his family and fellow firefighters, but by an entire community that stands behind those who serve.

As his family, friends, and brothers and sisters in the fire service gather to say their final goodbyes, we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

For those wishing to support the Kilduff family, donations can be made at:

Our hearts, our prayers, and our most solemn condolences this morning are with the family of Boston Fire Department Firefighter Robert β€œBobby” Kilduff Jr., and with his brothers and sisters on Rescue Company 2 and across the entire Boston Fire Department.

Firefighter Kilduff, a 24-year veteran, Marine Corps veteran, and third-generation firefighter, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while operating at a three-alarm fire in Dorchester.

There are no words sufficient to capture the weight of this loss β€” to his family, his department, the fire service, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Today, we stand with all who wear the badge and answer the call, knowing the risks carried every time a firefighter enters a burning building in service to others.

May Firefighter Kilduff’s courage, dedication, and sacrifice never be forgotten.

Rest easy, brother. We have the watch from here.

This weekend, the Arlington Emergency Management Agency honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

As many gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, AEMA encourages everyone to stay safe, aware, and prepared:

πŸ’§ Stay hydrated during the warm weather
πŸ”₯ Use grills and fire pits safely
πŸ”Œ Never overload extension cords or power strips
β›ˆοΈ Keep an eye on changing weather conditions
❀️ Check in on elderly neighbors and vulnerable family members

Preparedness starts at home and strengthens the entire community.

From all of us at AEMA β€” thank you to those who served, those who continue to serve, and especially those who gave everything for our country.

πŸ”₯ With temperatures rising, many people are turning on air conditioners and fans for the first time this season. As electrical demand increases, it’s important to use cooling equipment safely.

⚠️ Air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and other high-power appliances should always be plugged directly into a wall outlet β€” never into an extension cord or power strip. Overloaded cords can overheat and create a serious fire hazard.

βœ… Additional hot weather electrical safety tips:
β€’ Check cords for damage before use
β€’ Keep vents and filters clean for proper airflow
β€’ Avoid overloading outlets
β€’ Make sure smoke alarms are working
β€’ Keep generators outdoors and away from windows/doors

🌑️ Early-season heat can impact people quickly, especially older adults, children, and those without air conditioning. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on neighbors, friends, and family.

β˜€οΈπŸŒ©οΈ HEAT & STORM ALERT FOR TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY πŸŒ©οΈβ˜€οΈ

Potentially record-setting heat and the possibility of severe thunderstorms are expected across the region over the next two days.

Early-season heat can be especially dangerous because many people are not yet acclimated to higher temperatures. Heat-related illness can develop quickly β€” especially during outdoor work, sports, events, or extended time in direct sun.

⚠️ Take precautions now: πŸ’§ Stay hydrated
🧒 Limit prolonged sun exposure
❄️ Take frequent cooling breaks
πŸ‘΅ Check on elderly neighbors, children, and vulnerable individuals
🐢 Don’t forget pets
πŸš— Never leave children or animals in vehicles

Be alert for signs of heat exhaustion:

Heavy sweating

Dizziness

Nausea

Weakness

Headache

Confusion

Severe thunderstorms may also bring: ⚑ Lightning
πŸ’¨ Strong winds
🌧️ Heavy rain
🌳 Downed trees/power outages

Monitor forecasts and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Stay weather aware. Stay hydrated. Stay safe.

🚨 AEMA History & Service 🚨

At the center of this display is the current Arlington Emergency Management Agency patch β€” representing AEMA as it exists today.

To the left is the historic Arlington Auxiliary Fire Department patch, honoring the generations of volunteers who helped build Arlington’s emergency support tradition.

To the right is the Community Safety Volunteer Services (CSVS) patch, representing another chapter in the organization’s continued evolution in public safety and community preparedness.

Surrounding them are patches from just some of the organizations where past and present AEMA members have continued to serve beyond Arlington β€” including fire departments, EMS agencies, emergency management organizations, law enforcement agencies, volunteer groups, and military service.

These patches represent more than agencies β€” they represent dedication, experience, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to serving others.

No matter where members serve, the mission remains the same: Helping people. Supporting communities. Answering the call.

We are proud of the members β€” past and present β€” who continue that tradition of service every day.

🚨 Interested in serving your community? AEMA is always looking for dedicated volunteers who want to make a difference through emergency management, logistics, communications, rehabilitation support, preparedness, and public safety operations.
