The Arlington Human Rights Commission invites the community to an important event with speaker Angel Eduardo. The free talk is titled "Star-Manning and Free Speech: How Compassionate Conversation Can Build Community Across Divides." Angel Eduardo is a writer, musician, photographer, and designer based in New York City, best-known for coining the rhetorical term “star-manning™️.” He works as Senior Writer & Editor for the free speech advocacy nonprofit Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), and serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the civil rights nonprofit Fair for All.

Come and Celebrate Holi!

Indian Americans of Arlington and the Arlington DEI Department are excited to invite you to come celebrate the Indian festival of spring and colors. Colored powder will be available free of charge to all participants. The event will include information about the traditions of the Holi festival and free Indian food and snacks.

Participants are encouraged to wear sunglasses and clothing they do not mind getting stained. The colors are made from food-grade, biodegradable materials and are FDA-approved, safe, and easy to clean up.

To respect everyone’s comfort and preferences, we’ll have a dedicated color‑play corner for those who wish to enjoy the fun with colors. Participation is completely optional and at will, especially for our little ones.

Come celebrate with us in a safe, happy, and colorful way!

Mha Puja marks the New Year according to the Nepal Sambat calendar, celebrated by the Newah community, the indigenous people of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal.

This year, the Newah Organization of New England, USA is hosting a celebration at Calvary Church in Arlington on Wednesday, October 22, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. The event will include the following:

Vibrant Manda Display (sacred circular diagrams representing the individual's connection to the universe)
Mha Puja (self purification)
Sagun and Sisapusa Ghalala (ceremonial presentations)
Scrumptious Newah Dinner
Cultural Program

Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution – Film Screening

A groundbreaking documentary about the disability rights movement, presented with audio description and open captioning. The film is also available to stream on Netflix. This movie is rated R.

Democracy Talks: Advocates Respond to Disability Rights Under Attack – Panel Discussion
Tuesday, October 21, 6:30 - 8:30 PM
A conversation with leading disability rights advocates Charlie Carr, Kim Charlson, Finn Gardiner, Jennifer Lee-Rambharose, and Watertown's first Human Services Director, Jenna Bancroft.

Both events will include ASL interpretation and CART captioning, and will be held in the

Watertown Savings Bank Room (1st floor), Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main St, Watertown.

Join us for a town-wide celebration of Indigenous Peoples! This free event for all ages will feature a fun and educational performance by the Boston-based collective BOMBAntillana. Experience one of the oldest living musical traditions of Borikén (Puerto Rico). Bomba evolved as a powerful form of expression and resistance by Indigenous Taino and West African peoples during Spanish rule and beyond. Saturday, October 11. 1:00 - 2:30 PM.
