As summer approaches, I always find myself thinking about specific students and wondering how they will do at home all summer long. One simple activity I like to do with them before the end of the year is build a coping toolbox that they can use at home during the summer.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our customers, families, partners, and staff! We appreciate you all so much and we cannot thank you enough for choosing to participate, collaborate or work in Arlington County Therapeutic Recreation programs and services. Without your loyalty, your feedback, and your support, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. Perhaps it’s the nostalgia of growing up in New England. I love the sights, sounds, and smells of the season - sweater weather, hot ciders, and the bounty of the season. Sending you cozy autumn vibes as you celebrate this Thanksgiving with the ones who matter most.

Wishing you all the best, and a very happy Thanksgiving!

Motor planning describes how we move our body when given a skill to do. For example, if you were asked to jump you have to think about how you are going to make your body jump and then jump. For some skills this can happen almost involuntarily, but for other skills (especially if they are new) it might take some more time to figure out. Check out this “Turkey Agility” activity that you can do to increase your gross motor planning skills:
