Fifty-four hours. Forty miles. Almost no sleep.

The Crucible starts at 2:30 in the morning with a six kilometer hike and does not stop until it is done. Eight major events, combat assault courses, casualty evacuation drills, reaction courses, all on limited rations. In between are the Warrior Stations, each one named for a real Marine and built around what they did.

They are not just testing whether your recruit can keep going. They are testing whether your recruit can solve a problem and carry somebody else while doing it.

General Krulak introduced it in 1996 as the last test before they earn the title.

Open the Sandboxx app for this week's update and the full breakdown of what the Crucible involves.

Everything you did today ran through a satellite.

Your maps, your group chat, the weather you checked before you got dressed. All of it moves through something orbiting a couple hundred miles over your head, and somebody has to keep it working.

Level 62 takes on adventure to see who. That is the actual distance to space, closer than most people would guess! Bring the kids, bring the teenagers, bring whoever came out with you!

It sits right next to The Hangar at Lackland in the parking lot of the Pfingston Reception Center. So while waiting for graduation on Wednesdays and Thursdays, go experience Level 62! Open from 6 to 10:30 a.m., doors close at 11. Register ahead at the link in the comments and pick up a wristband from staff when you get there. Kids under 13 need an adult along.

Every one of them knows the mail truck sound.

Wednesday is National Dog Day, and this Community is full of good boys and good girls holding down the fort while somebody is away.

Post a photo of your pet in the Contests space of Community in the app, and tell us their name! Bonus points if they wait by the door on mail day. Use the photo as your cover so other members can vote, then go like the ones that make you smile!

Most liked photo takes a 12-Letter Sandboxx Plus bundle. Ten more posters win a 3-Letter bundle, drawn at random.

Entries close Friday, August 28 at 10:00 AM ET. Winners are notified the same day. Head to the Contests space in the Sandboxx app to enter, OR use the link in the comments. ๐Ÿพ

Forty-one years before Jamestown, this was the capital of Spanish Florida. Your Marine has been doing push-ups on it.

Six forts were built on Parris Island between 1562 and 1587, French and Spanish. Four have been located. One was lost to the sea. San Felipe II, built in 1570, has never turned up, and archaeology on the depot is still ongoing.

Five hundred years ago this week, two Spanish ships sailed into Port Royal Sound on the feast day of Saint Helena and named it Santa Elena. The settlement that followed ran the whole of Spanish La Florida until 1576.

You will have more downtime on Family Day than you expect. The historic site sits near Legends Golf Course, a few minutes from where you will already be. Free, and worth the stop.

They looked for you before they looked at anything else.

All those weeks of writing into what felt like nowhere, the calls at strange hours, the checking the mailbox way too early. And then it ends with someone scanning a crowd for your face and finding it.

Congratulations to the newest Airman. And to every parent, spouse, sibling, and friend who kept showing up from a few states away, today was yours too. ๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿงก

Jayna McPherson's Soldier just finished Infantry OSUT! Ask her about week one and she can still tell you what the house sounded like.

OSUT is One Station Unit Training, where Basic Training and Infantry job training run back to back at the same post. Jayna is on the other side of all of it now, which is exactly why she is worth an hour of your time. On August 27 she is sitting down with Kris Broadus, our Army Relations Manager and a retired Sergeant Major, for an honest conversation about the whole stretch.

The silence.
The letters.
The worry.
The pride.

From the day they leave to Family Day and beyond. Whether your Soldier shipped last week or has been gone a month, this one is for you. Bring the questions you feel silly asking.

Thursday, August 27, 7 to 8 PM ET. Free, and no account needed to RSVP. Head to the link in the comments!

It is 2am and you are doing the math on whether his letter should have arrived by now.

That is the hour Community Pro was built for. The Branch Pocket Guide answers by branch and base, so you get one clear answer instead of four conflicting replies in a group thread.

Military Communications 101 in the Community Academy covers how mail actually moves and what phone calls tend to look like, so the silence stops feeling like a warning.

And, your Battle Buddies group is other supporters whose person is in the same week of training as yours, so when you say week three is hard, nobody needs it explained.

The quiet after they ship is the hard part. You should not have to sit in it alone!

Join Community Pro in the Sandboxx app.

Whatever week you are in, there is somebody in there who is in it too. ๐Ÿ“ฎ

You are not going to get your recruit in trouble by writing to them! ๐Ÿ’Œ

That worry is the reason a lot of letters sit unsent, so here are four of the most common mail questions, answered. You can write as often as you want. Photos are fine. And a quiet stretch usually just means they got about an hour to themselves and spent it sleeping!
