Village Community Services

Through our Residential and Vocational Services, Village Community Services helps people who have disabilities to live as independently as possible in their own homes and/or to find and sustain employment. We also offer the Village Music and Arts and Voices of the Village music programs for people with developmental disabilities and their friends, family, and community.

Every door opened at Village Community Services begins with someone who believes in whatโ€™s possible. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿšช๐Ÿ’› A job opportunity. A new skill. A place to call home. A chance to make music, build friendships, experience something new, or become a little more independent.

On September 17, weโ€™re bringing our community together to celebrate those possibilities - and help create even more of them. We hope youโ€™ll be part of Opening Doors 2026 at Glen Eagle Golf Course.

When we come together, thereโ€™s so much more we can make possible!

Sometimes, all it takes is one business willing to open its doors and give someone a chance. ๐Ÿ’œ

If youโ€™re a local business owner who has considered supported employment but wondered, โ€œWhat if it doesnโ€™t work for us?โ€ - thatโ€™s okay. Youโ€™re not committing to something that has to work at all costs. VCS Employment Services is there to support both the individual and the employer, helping find opportunities that are a good fit for everyone.

Open the door. Start the conversation. See where it leads. You might just find an incredible employee like Tim. ๐Ÿซถ

When Tim decided he wanted a change in his employment support, VCS listened. He already knew Jenni through his involvement with the Village Experience Learning Center and Voices of the Village, and that familiarity helped make the transition a comfortable one. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝโ˜บ

Today, Jenni supports Tim as his job coach at Action Sports, providing guidance when he needs it while also knowing when to step back and let Tim do what he has been doing successfully for so many years.

The goal isnโ€™t to do the job alongside Tim every step of the way. Itโ€™s to make sure he has the support he needs while giving him the space to take ownership of his work and be as independent as possible. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Thirty years at the same job is something worth celebrating! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐ŸŽ‰

For Tim, Action Sports in Arlington, WA has been part of his life for three decades. He knows his responsibilities, takes pride in his work, and has built a wonderful relationship with owner Lauren and the people around him along the way.

And thatโ€™s a big part of what we hope for through VCS Employment Services.

Employment looks different for every person we support. For Tim, itโ€™s one hour each week spent sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and making sure Action Sports looks its best. Itโ€™s work he takes ownership of and a routine that supports his continued independence and personal growth.

But these photos show something else, too. After 30 years, Tim isnโ€™t simply someone who comes in to do a job. Heโ€™s part of the Action Sports family. And judging by that hug with Lauren, we think the feeling is pretty mutual. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ

Congratulations again, Tim, on 30 years at Action Sports! And thank you to Lauren and Action Sports for continuing to show what can happen when a local business opens its doors and makes room for someone to contribute, grow and belong.

For 30 years, Tim has been showing up for work at Action Sports in downtown Arlington. ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Once a week, for an hour, he gets to work helping keep the store looking its best - sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and taking a lot of pride in a job that has been his for three decades. ๐Ÿ’›

Along the way, the store has changed hands, but Tim has remained. When Lauren Hunter became the owner of Action Sports a few years ago, she inherited more than a business. She also inherited a longtime employee who had already become part of the place.

We recently had the chance to sit down with Lauren and Tim and hear a little more about their time working together. And really, thereโ€™s something pretty special about celebrating 30 years of simply being welcomed, valued and given the opportunity to contribute.

Congratulations, Tim, on an incredible milestone! And thank you to Lauren and Action Sports for continuing a relationship that began all those years ago and for supporting Tim as he continues working toward his own goals for independence and personal growth. ๐Ÿซถ

๐ŸŽถ Thanks to funding from ArtsWA, VCS recently wrapped up our Showcase Project, which welcomed local musicians and artists to join our weekly Voices of the Village jam sessions. Our musicians had the chance to meet new artists, try different instruments, learn new performance skills, and (of course) make some great music together.

But one of our favorite parts of this project was that the learning went both ways. Our guest musicians experienced firsthand the joy, connection, and impact music brings to the lives of adults with disabilities.

And the benefits will continue! Funding from the project also allowed VCS to purchase additional instruments for our musicians to explore and enjoy. ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŽต

A huge thank you to , our guest artists, and everyone who helped make the Showcase Project such a success!

What can happen when a business opens its doors and says yes? ๐Ÿ’œ

This conversation with Janna from Marysville Grocery Outlet and Brenda, one of our VCS Employment Specialists, speaks to the power of community partnership and what becomes possible when businesses create space for individuals with disabilities to learn, grow, and gain meaningful workplace experience.

These opportunities matter... and they start with people willing to say yes. Thank you to community partners like Marysville Grocery Outlet for helping create pathways forward for our clients.

And as Janna said so beautifully: โ€œJust say yes.โ€ ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ
