Our NSIN Propel Boston Cohort wrapped up their experience with an incredible demo day at Gillette Stadium last week! The 12 cohort companies pitched their solutions for the Special Operations Forces to more than 200 leaders from the DoD, venture capital, and the Boston innovation community.

At the event, participating companies shared how Propel Boston opened doors for them to enter the defense industrial base. Daniel Pelaez, CEO of Cyvil.ai, said, "We have known from day one that there was always potential for dual use. This was a great introduction to meet a lot of folks [in defense] and build that network. (…) We are looking forward to growing these relationships and finding huge ways that we can drive value with our solutions."

Our NSIN Capstone students have been working hard to generate new solutions for service members! A group of Capstone students from Georgia Institute of Technology recently visited Hunter Airfield to gain a deeper understanding of challenges with fuel sampling, which they are working to address.

During their trip, a representative from the 3rd Infantry Division demonstrated issues with the current hand pump-based extraction method, which is messy and can lead to fuel contamination. The insights gained from this trip will factor into the solution they present at the end of the course.

Extreme cold presents unique challenges to field medicine - now, the Below Zero Medicine Tech Exchange is helping provide solutions. The collaborative project, put on by NSIN, the 673d Medical Group, the University of Alaska Anchorage, and Arctic Spark, saw participants devise solutions to control the temperature of medication and medical equipment to maintain their efficacy.

“NSIN served as a conduit for these organizations, helping connect the dots between the needs of the Department of Defense and the capabilities of academic researchers and innovators,” said Tanya Parypa, Northwest Regional Director at NSIN. “Alaska and cold environments provide unique challenges that require new solutions that break from the norm.”
