Arlington firefighters are grateful that Firefighter Brady Weaver survived the gunshot wound he suffered in the line of duty. Brady is awake and in good spirits at the hospital. We are standing by to help him as he begins a long recovery. While this incident reminds us of the inherent dangers of our profession, we also are grateful for the support of the community we serve and of the fire service around the nation. With that in mind, please keep Brady’s family, friends and crew in your thoughts and prayers as he begins his recovery. We will provide another update as soon as possible.

Hired 10-12-1981
Death 3-5-1985 @ 1630 hours
Ronny Snow died after being electrocuted while raising an extension ladder during a training exercise outside fire station 7 on March 5th 1985. He was 25 years old with 3.5 years on the job. He was the first career firefighter to die in the line of duty in Arlington.

At 02:30 this morning while responding to a residential fire, Fort Worth Fire Department Engine 3 was involved in a rollover MVA in which 4 of our firefighters were injured. One firefighter sustained critical injuries and was taken to a local trauma center and remains in critical condition. The other three firefighters also sustained injuries, two of which have been treated and released with the other still admitted to the hospital in stable condition. The incident is still in very early stages of investigation and the cause is unknown at this time. We ask our community to please keep our firefighters in their thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time.

The past few weeks we’ve covered efforts to reduce cancer both at the fire station and on the fire ground. This week, we will capture risk factors while you are off shift. The materials this week will cover a variety of personal modifiable risk factors you can address both on and off the job to reduce your cancer risk. Some of these factors include to***co and alcohol use, fitness, nutrition, sleep hygiene, and stress.

Materials throughout the week will highlight best practices around SCBA use, preliminary exposure reduction processes, bagging gear, and designating zones on the fireground to reduce exposures as you transition from active firefighting to rehab.

In March 1959, Preston Jordan and others formed and chartered the Arlington Professional Fire Fighters, an affiliate local of the International Association of Fire Fighters, which represents active and retired firefighters in the City of Arlington, Texas.

Last night, our last living charter member, Brother Jordan, passed away. Rest in peace, Brother. Thanks for everything.

Good morning to all, as a reminder the month of January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month.

Fire fighter occupational cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty death in the fire service.

At the 2023 IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial, 63% of the names added to the wall were members who had died from occupational cancer.

In partnership with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN), the IAFF has designated January as Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness Month to provide fire fighters the necessary tools and guidance to develop life-saving protocols for cancer prevention and to support those with a cancer diagnosis within their departments.

Bringing increased public awareness to occupational cancer in the fire service will help generate greater legislative support for states and provinces to establish presumptive disabilities for all cancers affecting fire fighters.

Please share and repost to get the word out! Stay tuned weekly for important information on ways to identify, reduce, prevent and bring awareness on an issue that continues to plague the fire service.

Today we said goodbye to Matt Dawson from Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association who passed away due to injuries sustained in an accident in January 2020. Matt was a selfless man who exhibited brotherhood before and after his accident. Matt will be missed but may his legacy of service above self last eternal.

The Executive Board of the APFF is devastated to hear of the passing of Brother Matt Dawson from Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association. Earlier this year, Matt selflessly helped other Texas firefighters in his namesake legislation to help those severely injured in the line of duty.

The fire service lost a hero today… Please keep Matt Dawson’s family and our Brothers and Sisters of the Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt loved the fire service. After suffering a critical injury in the line-of-duty on January 11, 2020, Matt worked diligently at the Capitol to pass legislation protecting injured firefighters and their families. In June of 2023, the Dawson-Allison Act was signed into law by Governor Abbott.

Matt, you will truly be missed by all.

Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the line of duty death of Captain Ron McAndrew who died while fighting a four-alarm fire in Arlington. He was 43 years old.

Captain McAndrew served with the Arlington Fire Department for 17 years. One of his many achievements was helping to set up the department’s Hazardous Materials Team at Station 5.

When Station 5 was rebuilt in 2016 it memorialized Captain McAndrew by including his ID number (94) on the station logo. Pictures of Captain McAndrew and his family hang on the station walls.

Today, your Arlington Professional Fire Fighters hone their skills at the department’s Training Center which is located at 5501 Ron McAndrew Drive.

We will never forget Captain McAndrew and we are thinking of his family today.

APFF members walked the streets today handing out stickers and setting up signs for "Fill the Boot" for MDA. We will be out again tomorrow the 27th for one last day weather permitting!

Saddened to hear about the passing of Cyndy Greene yesterday. The Arlington Professional Fire Fighters worked with her on multiple campaigns for city council. She was always an advocate for firefighters and for her candidates. She will be missed.

This past week German Firefighters from our sister city of Bad Königshofen, Germany visited Arlington. They were shown around many of the great attractions our city has to offer, and shown our amazing Fire department operations. We were honored to host an event at our local hall yesterday evening, which allowed some of our membership to get to meet these great individuals. L1329 3rd EVP Steve Eck presented their chief with his personally owned helmet as a token of friendship and camaraderie. We would also like to thank our our member and Arlingtontxfire Deputy Chief, Pete Arevelo for all he has done this past week in showing these fellow firefighters around and being a great ambassador for our city!
