With all of the ugliness in the world, let me share one of the sweet things that has happened lately.

I recently had the pleasure of helping this lovely couple with Notary work. The wife had recently lost her sister and was given this antique typewriter, but she didn't really have a place to display it. She asked if I might be interested in it. Of course, I said yes!

We worked out an exchange for services, and this antique beauty found her new home with me. Now, she proudly sits on my great-grandparent's table, which somehow makes her feel even more special.

The very first paper I put into the typewriter was well wishes for a couple I had just married. ❤️

I'm so thankful to have such a beautiful treasure in my collection, but even more thankful for the story that came with it. It will always remind me of the timeless love between sisters, and sometimes the things we treasure most find their way to exactly where they belong.

If I had a nickel for every time this happened, I would be a rich woman......

Again today, as happens multiple times a week, I was asked to notarize a vehicle title transfer where the seller simply signed the back of the title. The buyer had a copy of their driver's license. They were told by someone who is no longer a Notary Public (who clearly accepted this in their notary practice) that this was sufficient.

IT IS NOT.

Louisiana has very specific requirements for notarizing title transfers. and this practice, as I just described, is not legal. I know people rely on advice that seems reliable, but incorrect guidance can cause major problems down the road. I'll continue sharing information to help our neighbors understand what's actually required so these transactions are done correctly and safely.

If you are heading out of town to purchase a vehicle, call me. I can walk you through what needs to happen. I can tell you the best practice and even give you a back-up plan. Even if I'm not being asked to do the Notary work, I am here to help. Call me, text, send a FB message. Let me help you get it right.

I just reviewed a Power of Attorney purchased from an online source. An LSU parent group recommended it, and it looks like many families are relying on it. As a Louisiana Notary Public, I cannot notarize this form.

Power of Attorney (Mandate in Louisiana) and Wills purchased online rarely comply with our laws. I will never try to upsell you, but I will always be honest if I'm not comfortable signing a document that won't actually give you the authority you think it will. Unfortunately, you won't discover the problem until you need to use it. In the case of a Will, it will likely be too late.

Please make sure you're working with an experienced Louisiana Notary or attorney who understands our state's requirements. It makes all the difference.

Very important legislation has taken effect starting August 1st. This will allow me and other Notary Publics to help our communities to settle a loved one's estate for a fraction of the cost of a judicial proceeding.

If you think a Small Succession Affidavit might apply to your situation, I'm always happy to explain what the Small Succession Affidavit process looks like. Feel free to reach out regarding any questions regarding the procedure.

New addition was complete Tuesday afternoon and it looks great! No more getting soaked as we walk in the door! Having the extra work area outside will be super helpful too. Bourque’s Quality Construction, LLC did a fantastic job. Now we're looking forward to our next project
