SEVERE weather has moved to the north and east at this point. NWS shows a 40% chance of severe weather this evening. There's still a lot of lighting in the area and pop-up storms are always possible. The Lutheran Church here in Arnegard is the storm shelter should things get really wild. If/when the siren goes off, we will have ARFD / EMS personnel at that location. Stay safe folks.

Message from Governor Armstrong.

** Today we issued an executive order declaring a statewide fire emergency and activating the State Emergency Operations Plan, as drought conditions and the risk of wildfires have intensified across North Dakota amid hot and dry conditions in July and August.
We need to be prepared for a potentially intense wildfire season this fall. State government is committed to deploying all resources at our disposal to protect life and property in cooperation with our local, tribal and federal partners.
We encourage citizens to keep updated on fire conditions and take precautions to prevent wildfires as we face these challenging conditions together.

It is very, very dry and we have a lot of fuel out there. It's deceiving. It looks green but it's rapidly turning and burning. Please be careful if you're outdoors. Be mindful of trailer chains, smoking materials and vehicle exhausts. If something starts it will be difficult to extinguish. If you see smoke be sure to dial 911 right away so we can get engines heading that way. Be careful folks

We've been upgraded to a RED FLAG WARNING for today. Low humidity, gusts to 30 and a heavy fuel load will make extinguishing fires that do start difficult. Please use extreme caution.

FIRE INDEX is VERY HIGH today folks. This means that if a fire does start it will run fast and be difficult to extinguish. We were paged out to two separate fire calls yesterday and both involved grass / vegetation. We had a lot of units respond and were able to get them stopped quickly but they were burning quite aggressively. Please be careful out there and be mindful of trailer chains, smoking materials and anything that can start a fire.
