In 2023, our station was impacted by the sudden passing of Brice Boone, the son of our President and Chief. While he never wanted to be a first responder, he committed to our station out of the kindness of his heart, and to make his mama happy. He is greatly missed by all and we wanted to make sure his legacy lived on through Arnold VFD. This award was presented by Past President Ryan Bosley, Secretary Melissa Ehrlich, and Treasurer Jean Allen.

Arnold Volunteer Fire Department- Statement on the Passing of Robert “Bobby” Daywalt:

“It is with deep sadness that the members of the Arnold Volunteer Fire Department share the passing of our friend and brother, Robert “Bobby” Daywalt.

Bobby joined our Department in April of 2014, after retiring as a captain from the Annapolis Fire Department. True to his good humor, we often joked that we “harassed him” until he finally came aboard- and we are so grateful that he did.

As a Fire Apparatus Driver Operator, Bobby loved being behind the wheel of Engine 172. Whether it was duty crews, calls for service, training nights, conventions, or community outreach, he was always at the heart of our operations.

Beyond the firehouse, Bobby was a respected instructor for the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, where he shared his knowledge and passion with countless firefighters across the State. Many of us here in Arnold, and throughout Maryland were trained and inspired by him.

Bobby was more than a firefighter- he was a mentor, teacher, and above all, a friend. He carried himself with a kindness, patience, humor, and he left an imprint on every one of us who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

This loss hurts deeply. Bobby’s passing is not only a loss for our Department, but for our community and for the entire Maryland fire service family. He will always be remembered with love and respect.

Rest easy, Bobby. We’ll take it from here.”
