Arrest and Charges Following a Series of Property Damage Incidents in Arnold

52-year-old Joseph M. Patzius of Arnold is charged with two counts each of Property Damage 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action, along with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly damaging the windows of multiple Arnold businesses.

Patzius was arrested on August 27th and is now in jail without bond. No one was injured, though employees were inside one of the businesses at the time of the damage.

This arrest was the result of a true team effort between the Arnold Police Department Detective Bureau, Business Resource Officers, School Resource Officers, and Road Patrol Officers.

The Arnold Police Department is continuing to actively investigate multiple other similar property damage incidents reported in the Arnold area since July 29th.

We would like to thank the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorneyโ€™s Office for their quick work to obtain the arrest warrant.

When our department started a Law Enforcement Exploring Program three years ago, we knew that we would be privileged to have some incredible young adults start that journey with us. Sam Menke is one of those individuals. Sam has been with us from the inception of the program, and somehow also found time to complete the Jefferson County Emergency Services Fire Academy AND receive his EMT license and complete paramedic school! If ever there was a young man who embodies public service and the desire to give back to his community, it is most certainly Sam. Thanks for the journey sir, weโ€™re honored to have had you in our program!

๐Ÿš” 2026 Arnold Junior Police Summer Camp โ€” A Huge Success!

This year's Junior Police Summer Camp brought together 45 kids ages 9โ€“13 from Arnold and surrounding communities for four action-packed days hosted at the Fox High School! Campers got hands-on experience with public safety and built positive relationships with local law enforcement. They toured police vehicles, spoke with real 911 dispatchers during simulated emergencies, met the Detective Bureau, trained with firefighters at Rock Community Fire Protection District, and learned about safe choices from MADD and the FBI. The week even included a "trip to jail" at the Arnold Police Department and a visit to explore SWAT vehicles, ambulances, and emergency medical training at the new Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and ROCK Township Ambulance District substation in Imperial.

Day four was all about celebrating! Campers went roller skating at Rock 'N Roll Arena, enjoyed lunch at Wesley Rogers Steakhouse, and closed out the week bowling at Imperial Bowl โ€” complete with complimentary frozen custard from Culver's, generously donated by the Bommarito Automotive Group. A big thank you to all our community partners who made this year unforgettable! ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

Congratulations to Corporal Brett Ackermann on completing the FBI LEEDA Trilogy!

Over the past several months, Corporal Ackermann successfully completed the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Trilogyโ€”an intensive, nationally respected leadership development series for law enforcement professionals.

The Trilogy includes three separate courses: the Supervisor Leadership Institute, the Command Leadership Institute, and the Executive Leadership Institute. Together, these programs provide comprehensive instruction in modern leadership principles, ethical decisionโ€‘making, communication strategies, and organizational management.

Officers who complete the series gain advanced tools to lead effectively, navigate complex challenges, and strengthen their agencies through progressive leadership practices.

We are proud of Corporal Ackermannโ€™s dedication to professional growth and his commitment to bringing these enhanced leadership skills back to our organization.

His achievement represents an investment not only in his future, but in the future of our department and the community we serve.

Great job, Corporal Ackermann! Your continued effort and leadership make a difference.

Corporal Ron Chiodini and Business Resource Officer Sean Kennedy were awarded for assisting individuals they encountered who were experiencing a mental health crisis, and ensuring that each received the proper care they needed. We also want to thank the Jefferson County CIT Council for continuing to provide outstanding crisis intervention training to first responders throughout our county, it is very much appreciated!

Our department was recently represented during National Police Week in Washington D.C. by Sergeant Koenig and Officer Hussmann, as they honored fallen Arnold Police Department Officers John LeCompte and Steven Jarvis. We will always remember their legacy and the sacrifice they made for our community, as we will also continue to do for the other 24,000 members of law enforcement who have given their lives in service to our country.

ARREST MADE:
Fox Middle School teacher, Zachery Robert Leonard, 42, of St. Louis has been arrested and charged following an investigation into inappropriate sexual and criminal conduct involving a student under 14. Arnold Detectives along with School Resource Officers began an immediate investigation after the incident was reported on 5/6/2026. Leonard was initially arrested on 5/6/2026 but released as Detectives continued to gather evidence. On 5/11/2026 Detectives submitted a Probable Cause Statement to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. On 5/14/2026 a No Bond Warrant was issued for Leonard's arrest and Arnold Detectives were able to locate and take him into custody without incident. Leonard has been charged with Enticement of a Child, (2x) Child Molestation 3rd Degree, and (2x) Sexual Contact w/ Student. Leonard is currently being held at the Arnold Police Department Jail without bond.

We would like to thank the Fox-C6 School District for their cooperation and assistance with this investigation. We would also like to thank the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for moving quickly to file charges in this case.

Our priority is the safety and protection of children in our community. The actions alleged in this case represent a serious breach of trust and we will continue to work closely with prosecutors to ensure accountability.
